Hello all,
I hope everyone is doing well. I finally get to go for my surgery on my hands for carpel tunnel and nerve problems on April 13th which is exactly 6 months of 180 CLEAN DAYS!
Anywho the main reason for my post is Im helping someone set up a methadone weaning schedule.
Currently the person is on 150mg/day - liquid. They went and saw the Methadone Doc and he said you can wean at your own descretion. His advice was to go down 6mg/week. He says thats the usual method. But you can go higher or lower all depending on you you feel. Personally we agreed 5mg/week is too slow and low. Sooooooooo this is what we thought would work.
April 4-10: 140mg
April 11-17: 135mg
April 18-24: 125mg
April 25-May1: 120mg
So basically alternate 10mg and 5mg each weak, which is 7.5mg overall and 30mg/month.
So that too high or too low or ok? Will they feel normal at that amount of weening???
Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about methadone but your friend's taper schedule sounds doable. The only thing I question is alternating one mg to another each week. Seems you should stick to the same mg. decrease. you know, like 10mg a week.
What kind of safety nets have you set up for yourself for your surgery? Is someone going to hold your meds? Have you talked to your doc?

I think it sounds like a good schedule. Hope your surgery goes ok. Keep us posted. Also if she feels really uncomfortable she can always drop down 2 1/2 mgs a week instead! When getting to a real low dose she will need suboxone if that's possible. The withdrawls are severe even at 5 mgs a day. I know I was there for months and then dropped to 2.5 mgs before I quit. I thought I would die for about 3 weeks. So if that's an option have her go for it. At least for 3-4 weeks... I wouldn't suggest using sub for longer than 8 weeks but that's just my opinion..

Yea I already talked to the doctor and the specialist and stuff. They are offering me pain meds but I declined. I said that none are necessary for me. If I can handle 4 rectal prolapse surgeries in 6 months where I couldn't sit down for 2 weeks at a time and not take any pain meds, then I can do this too.
Soooooooooo no pain pills for me.

I've had carpals done on both wrists and you're right, it can be done without pain meds. I remember is hurting when I woke up but not that bad afterwards. I'm so proud of you.

i cant help you with the meth question as i know nothing about it. but i do want to wish you a speedy painless recovery cause we sure do need you around here about now. your way with words are much needed sometimes and only you can get that point across the way you do. one in which i truly admire and look up to. so hurry up and get better already (dont mean to sound selfish sorry) but i certainly couldnt perpetrate being you and getting away with it. : ) i am sending my prayers your way. i truly wish you strength and healing.
