Methadone

I use to take only percocets since 1985, taking a least a 15 dose a day. Now for the last 3 years here in N.C I belong to a pain clinc. NOW I take 90 zanex 180 5 mg oxycodone and 120 40 mg methadone a month for the last 3 years now my Doctor gave all his patints a30 day suppy and are files and said in a letter good luck. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO I NOW NOW I DONT HAVE A MONKEY ON MY BACK I HAVE A GORILA ON ME HELP LOST IN NC
Have you tried Suboxone yet? It really is a miracle drug!
Look, i use to be on 120mgs of methadone and my doctor basicly did the same to me, i freaked out and what I had to do was detox cold turkey!!! , it was pure hell, i must of been in the ER atleast 5 times and they gave me Clodine, for withdrawl, and Fenergan(sp) for nausa, look hun i feel 4-U, um have you looked in to a detox center?, if it gets really bad, like it did 4-me then go to the ER, they can and will help you, im sorry thats the best that I can do??, there are some smart people on here they will help you..... please take care sweetie....
Yeah I should have mentioned before in my earlier post that many detox centers now use Suboxone to get people off opiates. As for the Xanax, I'd also recommend a detox center since people coming off benzos can have seizures. I'd call around in your area and ask what types of detox programs are available. If you are in a metropolitan area there should be some options, even if you don't have insurance. Hope this helps! Good luck!
Coming off a benzo like Xanax is EXTREMELY dangerous. You cannot just simply quit it. It could easily kill you. And thats just the physical part. I'd recommend a detox.
I agree with Danny. Aside from the Benzo, that's a lot of medicine, especially methadone! I would be afraid to even give you advice for withdrawal because I think a controlled removal from the medicine is needed with those amounts.
i wouls also like to add that comming off of Methadone was a breath of the devil!!
please get medicial help, it is very dangerious!, please take care, mitzy......
I was formally on methadone and I can't imagine a doctor who would simply just "pull the plug", so to speak. Do you think you could possibly find another doctor who could help wean you off the proper way? Also, I'm already questioning this doctor for putting you on a benzo and methadone at the same time!!!! That's a pretty dangerous combination there. Both are respirtory depressents and can actually cause you to stop breathing!!! Both of my detox doctors wouldn't even give me a very small amount of the Klonopin I had been prescribed before for the withdrawal due to the potential danger of it. And I was on a much lower dose than you are currently on. PLEASE go see someone right away.
And I hate to say this but methadone withdrawal is extremely HARD to get off of, you'll want and need some medical attention just from going through that alone. Really, if you can get a script for suboxone, PLEASE try. It could really save you right now and it really does work. I used it just because I wasn't physically strong enough to get off the methadone by myself. Please let me know how you are doing, ok? I know you're in a different state and I don't know anything about your insurance situation, but open up that phone book and start looking, ok? As for right now, I would start practicing taking as little as possible just to help ease the withdrawal you will be going through. But PLEASE be careful, ok? Keep me posted, ok?

Sincerely,
Rachel REB
After you get clean you might want to see a lawer about this quack but for now tho its early hee in sc and I havent slept well it looks like you were on at least mega doses of narcotics, you " might want to check out rehabs that use something even tapering to help you get off.Im sure you freaking out to the max but TRY to remain calm, there is always a plan that you can come up with. The only legal way a dr can write an " addmitted " addict narcotics to help detox is if its shrink and or an addictionologist from my understanding. I would try to make a move in checking things out ASAP unless you have CT before and think you can do it . I wouldnt recomend it on your doses including the xanax. mabey a meth clinic that does detox or a inpatient. We all feel for you but we end up getting ourselves in these binds most but not all of the time . a lot of docs over rx. I assume his liscence was revoked or out of the blue he decided to stop writing narcs. in either case the important thing for you now is to come up with a plan and make it happen Keep posting so we know how you are and dont wait till the last minute to check things out Best wishes Ray
If the xanax are the 0.25 mg variety, you should be ok. At 3 a day, that's less than 1.0 mg/day. The methadone amounts are huge though. I agree that this doctor is nuts for prescribing this combination of meds.
Well my suggestion would be if you have a 30 days supply, you need to start weaning your self down. Instead of taking 6 oxycodone a day you need to take 4 and spread them out throughout the day and instead of taking 3 bars take 2 and take 20mg of methadone for a couple weeks and then taper down. In the meantime look for a doctor that will write subutex/suboxone I think that is the way to you for you! This is going to be one hell of a withdrawl... You need medical attention one way or the other to help. Please slow down on your meds and try and make a doctor's appt. other than your doctor that sounds like a piece of sh*t. Why in the hell would he write a letter like that to his patients? He put you on the meds and he should get you off. I would call an attorney or call a news channel on that doctor. I would be beyond pissed. That is just not human to do to people. Although the sad but true part is you hear it all to often.... Take care and best of luck to you, Rachel
Eddie- I was on 3mg a day of Xanax. I know people who took 25mg a day. It's crazy. These Doc's are nut's sometimes. I kept asking my Doc to help me get off and he was like "it's not time yet". I finally just did it without his OK. Then I called him after and said "NEVER give that to me or anyone again". He was mad, to say the least.
Hey Danny - You are smart so I'm assuming you really did mean 25.0 mg as opposed to 0.25 mg a day? That's messed up. I think where the wheels fall off is when the physical tolerance stage sets in...where more and more needs to be prescribed to get the same relief. That's when doctors should tune in. When I hear about doctors prescribing 10 - 15 a pills/day of any drug, I start wondering how they got into med school. There is a federal law on the books that only 120 pills of a drug can be prescribed per month but no one follows it because everybody makes money. The DEA is so concerned about "illegal" drugs that they are just starting to get into this area (recent oxy busts). I wouldn't be surprised if there is more legislation in the future regarding this but it ain't gonna happen' with the political scales where the are in the house and senate for the next 4 years.

FYI...I'm as "right wing" as they come.
Eddie, I'm more a moderate..but yes, it was 25mg a day...and the guy taking them was a Doctor himself..in fact a surgeon..and he cut his wrist, so he'll never operate again..that's what a benzo will do to you..he prescribed them to himself, takinging such a huge amount
Danny,
I told you this before, but I'm prescribed 0.5mg up to three times a day as needed (xanax) and you said that wasn't a big amount. I rarely take three a day because they make me tired and I don't like it. Its the pain pills I have a problem with. How can I be an addict (and I know as sure as the sun will come up) that I am, because of how I use pain pills, when I don't abuse the xanax and go nuts with the pain pills when I have them? Isn't it that if your addicted you have to get off everything? I just can't handle panic attacks, but I've been on the xanax for like two years or more and I've never had to go up on the dose. Do you think I have a problem with it? Briar
Danny - Bummer! Did he live and get off the xanax? That is like the ultimate withdrawal. His head must not have cleared for two years. I have never heard of anyone taking that much. Any seizures?
Briar - Two years is a long time to be on xanax. NORMALLY it is prescribed for short term anxiety. 0.5 mg, a few times a day is a very average dose. The biggest combatant for anxiety is exercise. Try that instead of pills. Good luck. Normally, if you are asking if you are an addict..........
Eddie- yes he did. at least the last time I saw him. He was a GREAT guy..can you imagine 25mg a day?

Briar- The thing about benzo's are it is for short term use. Maybe 6 weeks max. But you can become addicted in 3 weeks. Thats the problem. 1.5mg is not that much, but enough that you will suffer wd's when you quit. Heck, I was on them 7 years and it took me 12-14 weeks to fully withdrawl. They are NOT like pain pills or heroin. They really mess your mind up a lot when you quit. Not a lot of "flu" like symptoms. More like "I am going insane" symptoms...I went ct, which I WOULD NOT recommend to anyone..it requires a slow taper...so, if you have taken them for more than 4 weeks or so, I would say Yes, you have a problem. Read the Ashton manual and you can see.
