Methadone

hello y'all, hope you are doing fine tonight. I have a question? How long does it take for someone to get off methadone? I am hearing that its harder to quit then heroin? Or the detox is worst then H??? I have a brother that is on the program which i think is a joke. one addiction to another....
hey chris, I am Julie, I post on the heroin board, try commin over there, okay? I am on suboxone, and he or you?? could switch from meth to sub quickly, come visit me on h board, I will wait for you there, start a thread called sub vs methadone, youll get some help baby, okay???julie
chris,
I posted back to you about suboxone........Suboxone is not like meth. and not as hard to come off like meth. Also you cant use DOC on sub. or you want get anything out of it.its blocks DOC,which is a good thing so when you use you dont feel that you have .You are here to help your brother? How is doing on the meth.I have read alot about meth. and after learning about it.it wasnt something i would choose to use for recovery. Its really hard to come off and they say the w/ds are alot worst........Take care, crystal
Hey Chris05,
My name is Darin and I am a recovering addict of 5+yrs. Methadone was apart of my story and speaking from my point of view, one detox is no harder than the other......there is pain and discomfort ascociated what ever road you take to get clean. Some are just harder than others. To me methadone was like putting plaster over a severed head. I thought....ok....problem solved.....but I looked up and there I was still stuck. I cold turkeyed my way off both heroin and methadone....and the hardest thing, in the begining, was staying clean. All the best to you and your brother!
Darin
Hi Chris,
I understand your concern and am glad that you found this forum to post.
The upside of Methadone is that your bros. no longer runs the risk of using dirty, potentially fatal needles, (AIDS--How MY brither dies, Hep C, etc.), and stays away from the sometimes dangerous situations involved in buying H.
Methadone is VERY addictive and some use huge doses in their daily maintenance, (160 -plus mg.) It's HARD to come off from and many addicts choose to stay on it forever. It is possible, though.
But there is a choice if your brother really wants to get drug free. Problem is...it's alll up to him, and there's very little you can do about it except to take care of yourself around the issue, and let him know you're there for him if he needs you and ASKS for your help. When people stopped "taking care" of me, I found that the only way I would ever find a way out of the misery is if I did it myself...with others who were trained professionals to guide me. I tried to help my brother to no avail. He chose his path and ended up dying 10 yrs. ago. I'm still heartbroken, but I know now that it was in God's hands...
Educate yourself if you need to, pass on what you know, love him...but he needs to do it himself if if he wants it bad enough. Thousands have successfully kicked meth. and H...so he can too!
I'll say a prayer,,,My best wishes to you.
