molly
Hi Molly yes I saw that on TV and that shows you to never give up hope. I can just imagine how the parents are feeling.

Have a good day

Carol
Hiya molls/ trop i could not begin to imagine what the parents went through, but just for a second lets turn the tables and try to imagine what the kids of an addict are going through watching there parent/parents out of it most of the time, will they die? whats wrong with them? it must be a living hell. i wonder if there are meetings for the kids of addicts im sure they tell a different story. Ive seen some orrendous cases on the riki lake etc show. So fo rme today im gratefull. jaxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hey Jaxs so good to see you. Here in the US we have Alonon(sp)which is a support group for families/people who have Addicts or Alcoholics in thier family so there is help here for them
I see your point though. What does a small child think when they see thier parent messed up?Do they blame themselves etc?
For me when I felt my girls were old enough we did & still do discuss my addiction. It may be easier for me to talk with them due to the medical issues I have, but Ill be honest,I abused long before my health wnt down hill & THAT was very hard to try to explain & discuss with them.
Thankfully we do have the kind of relationship where both girls feel saf discussing just about anything with me.

How are you feeling Jaxs???
Yes,MJ,i saw that on the news.Amazing.I can only imagine the excitment of those parents. And i cant help but wonder what the one boy had to endure those 4 years.Im sure hes going to need alot of help, counseling, love and support for the rest of his life,sad.But...he has been found and brought back to his parents and that is truly amazing.Youre right,it gives other parents of missing children hope.Hopefully this man who kidnapped them will be in prison for life.~KIM

I didnt hear how they were found, did anybody else hear any info on that?
Im trying to remember...Oh thats it...one of the kids who saw the one kid get kidnapped reported about a White van leaving the bus stop where he was takn from fast & they tracked the van down, went to the house to question the people/person & boom there they were.
If thats not a miricle.
Do you remember about 15-20 years ago the story of the one boy that was gone for years? They made a movie out of it called"I Know My Name Is Steven"
That was also a miricle but it had a very sad ending. The kids brother (after Steven was brought home)drifted into the drug scene & ended up killing himself.
If you ever run across the book it is a good story how it all happen(the Steven part)

Edited to say Kimber I just sent you a News web site on it...
Thanks for the info Sabrina

And YESSSSSSSSS,i read that book "I know my name is Steven" I remeber the story too.Aamzing stuff.~KIM
Heres the story about Steven

It's the story of the longest stranger abduction of a child in U.S. history with a safe return: Seven-year-old Steven Gregory Stayner was kidnapped by Kenneth Eugene Parnell while on his way home from his 2nd grade class in Merced, California, December 4, 1972. Parnell was a previously-convicted child sex predator and kidnapper who brainwashed Steven, changed the boy's name to "Dennis Gregory Parnell", and made Steven live with him as his son while--by Parnell's own admission--he sexually assaulted Steven over 3,000 times.

On March 1, 1980, 14-year-old Steven escaped with Parnell's most recent kidnapping victim--five-year-old Timmy White of Ukiah, California--whom Parnell had kidnapped on Valentine's Day 1980. Both boys returned to live with their families. Parnell was convicted of both kidnappings but served just five years and one month in prison.

Sadly, Steven died in a motorcycle-auto accident on September 16, 1989.

Kenneth Eugene Parnell, Steven Stayner's kidnapper and the previously-convicted kidnapper and child rapist (Bakersfield, CA, in 1950) sexually assaulted Steven from age seven to age 14 (i.e., 1972 to 1980). From March of 1995 until June of 1997 Mike Echols kept tabs on Parnell, visiting him and taking him out to eat every month or two. However, on one such occasion in June of 1997, Parnell told Mike that the only thing he regretted about sexually assaulting Steven was: (i removed this part, just plain sick sick sick!)

Today Kenneth Eugene Parnell lives as a free man at 2630 Mathews Street in Berkeley, California. He is a very dangerous child sex predator who began preying on young boys in 1950; he keeps toys appealing to boys in his home; boys have been seen going into his home; and he lives near San Pablo Park in Berkeley which is frequented by lots of young boys! And he has even offered to babysit young children in his neighborhood!!

So...according to this story,a man who kidnapped and raped two boys over 3,000 times did what...4 years time and is a free man today, and probably getting away with alot of stuff today!!!!Unbelievabe!
Kimber didnt Stevens brother end up killing himself?I didnt realize that Steven also died?how sad & how sick that this****** is free to hurt other young kids.Though his main tagret may be boys with a siko like that NOBODY is safe....
Thank you for taking the time to write that out.

I also have a book on Elizabeth Smart if you remember her???What amazing stregth these children have to go through so much & be survivers!!!!
Yes it is sick to think he is alive and well.(the wacko that abducted Steven and then a 5 year old) But at least they "know" exactly where he lives,etc...but it sounds like there are no limitations to his life, people coming and going into his home, thats just not right!!!!!!!1

Yes,it said Steven died while on a motorcycle.Poor young man.He endured sooooooooooooo much at the hands of that monster.

Ive seen quite a few interviews with Elizabeth Smart, she seems like such a sweet, intelligent girl.~KIM
It has go tto be hard molls i know my kids saw me taking pills like sweets it just had to have an impact. Its great they have somewhere to go discuss issues though. I guess as addicts we will never know who we effect. jaxxxxxxx
here is the article

BEAUFORT, Mo.(AP) For better than four years, Shawn Hornbeck's parents dealt with their grief over the 11-year-old's disappearance by devoting themselves to bringing missing people home.

On Saturday, they showed off their best argument for hanging onto hope _ the boy, now a shaggy-haired 15-year-old, joined them at a news conference a day after police found him and another recently abducted boy at a suburban St. Louis apartment, both alive and apparently well.

"Shawn is a miracle here," his mother, Pam Akers, said Saturday at an elementary school in his hometown of Richwoods. "We're glad to have him home. I still feel like I'm in a dream, only this time it's a good dream, not the nightmare I've had four-and-a-half years."

Hornbeck did not speak, but he smiled often, his mother's arm draped around him, and seemed at ease. He was much bigger than pictures of the missing 11-year-old, his hair darker and longer.

Hornbeck and Ben Ownby, 13, disappeared 4 1/2 years and 40 miles apart. Ownby hadn't been seen since getting off a school bus Monday afternoon. Both towns are within 60 miles of St. Louis.

A routine search warrant led police to investigate the Kirkwood, Mo., apartment dweller, Michael Devlin, 41, an Imo's Pizza manager and part-time funeral home worker. He was charged with first-degree kidnapping and bail was set at $1 million.

An elated Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke, who headed the search for Ben, began a news conference Friday by telling reporters, "We have some good news and we have some probably unbelievable news."

The key to finding the boys was a beat-up white pickup truck spotted by a schoolmate of Ben's who got off the bus at the same time. The friend saw the pickup speeding away about the time Ben vanished from the gravel road near his home.
All i can say is thank god.Im so happy for those boys and their parents. Its a parent worse nightmare,no doubt.I bet they just cant believe hes been found and alive~KIM
Just goes to show how many parents are out their living this nightmare that dont make the news every night. Can any of us imagine 4 years of wondering where your child is. What is being done to him. Is he still alive. Forget it. But my lord what a day it must have been to see him again and hold him again. It certainly is a great story of hope though and how it can prevail.
