Morphine is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers.

Morphine is used to treat moderate to severe pain. Short-acting morphine is taken as needed for pain. Extended-release morphine is for use when around-the-clock pain relief is needed.

Morphine is not for treating pain just after surgery unless you were already taking morphine before the surgery.

Morphine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

My father has been given this opiate to try. He just cannot seem to find a pain med that does make him violently ill.

Anyone have experience with this med?

TIA--Jeff

What do you mean by this? You shouldn't take morphine for post operative pain uness you took it before the surgery?
Danny I just pasted what was googled. My Dad cant seem to find an opiate he can handle. His pain is getting worse. Radiation failed. Very worried--My Mom said this Morphine med was given to him last night as he is in a boat load of pain.

He took oxycontin and percs this past week and just got deathly sick. The doctor also gave him a anti nausea pill?

It ALL blows
Jeff......I am not 100% positive, but I believe that is what was given to my sister who had a bone disease where the bone was deteriating.

It was a longer lasting form of morphine. It did help with her pain, but sometimes she would have some break through pain and would take a short lasting morphine pill.

It didn't make her sick, but neither did any narcotics.

Sorry about your dad, man.....
Thanks Rhonda--His pain is bad--for my dad to take pain meds?? His scans came back and the radiation did ???SHEET NOTHING---Now not sure what to expect. I just pray this pill will be the first opiate he can handle.

My mom made a comment that scared me to death--But I remain positive. Having dinner with them tommath there home like we always do on Sundays--Football and Golf --so for now its just GOLF we all love to watch it.

Its my favorite time as I know that my dad is running out of Sunday's--

Thanks Rhonda--Jeff

P.S how is the weaning going? are you okay--?

Rhonda its time to get ready for early dinner as the Italian joint my daughter loves is either you get there 4;465 for 5 pm opening or you wait--no reservations--

Plce fills up by 6 but I like a booth so we get there early--then coldstones -(ICE CREAM ) after dinner
Weaning is going good. I am taking 4 mg now. Like I mentioned in my email I am having some cravings, but I am dealing with them by meetings and counseling. Thanks.

Enjoy your daughter and dinner!
That is great Rhonda--I got your e-mail just no time to reply properly. Just happy for you. Its going to take time but man your attitude is awesome

. Dinner was really good. My daughter is a angel hair frerak with parm-cheese. Its movie night--so we found Hoot",? will watch it later.

Man the weather was no nice today. 75-80 nice breeze-good day Rhonda.

Tommorow the same weather ie expected. may take my daughter to the Zoo up to her.

Jeff
Sorry about your dad Jeff..
My fil went through something similar with both the percs and Oxysthey made him very sick, altered and he was hallucinating at one point. They switched him to the morphine and he wasnt sick stomach wise anymore, and so much better mentally and physically his pain was relieved. I will keep good thoughts, this should be much better for your dad

Probably Reglan..helps a lot..believe me..forget the generic name..I take it 3x a day

Chronic pain like your fathers is very hard to treat. Such strong doses of opiates are required it is bound to make him sick. Pretty common with cancer patients. Plus, his being in the weakened state he is doesn't help with the stomach stuff..
Danny 5 mg of percocet makes him sick. Never mind the 20 mg oxycontin he tried the other day as the pain was bad.

He has tried demerol same problem. He has to keep trying and we will see how this drug works

My dad is a fighter-- will never give up.

Jeff..I talked wtih a friend of mine who's mother couldn't take pain meds, made her deathly ill and she was dying of cancer. They ended up giving her fentynal patches. Seemed to tolerate them just fine. Has your dad tried those?
Not yet. There very dangerous and anyone on those patches have no quality of life, He is not anywhere near that kind of therapy. He fights pain daily and its starting to spread /Bone Cancer has spread -the morphine extended will slowly release inrto his system doctor feels this is the best drug to tey--(I TRUST HIM)

Cancer is spreading. We hung out last night totalyy ifgnored my Mom just put football on and she leaves the room. We had a long talk and I walk out of the room feeling so much better. I love my father and Mother dearly This situation will run its course and until then I will be with my dad as much as he wants me. He has a great social life and man they party ---slowing down but My mOm pushes him she is so cool

Lisa those patches are really a last resort so to speak. But thanks for the idea.

Jeff
Actually, the lower doses of fentynal are no worse than morphine. My friend's mom did just fine on them, actually got back some quality of life for the little life she had left. I went to cut her hair after she had been given them and the difference in her was so dramatic. She was able to cook and clean...anything she wanted to do, didn't feel too groggy is my point. It wouldn't hurt to try if he is in that much pain.
Lisa I trust my dads doctor. His goal is to get his quality of life to improve without him suffering. But his situation is kind of messed up.

The Bonce Cancer is not his biggest pain issue today.

His Knee is 100% Bone on Bone. He was in N.Y and the doctor said it needsto be replaced. His cancer doctor says the operation would be 50-50 that it could kill him.

Its pucked up this situation. So we are trying time relaesed morphine for now and hopefully his body gets stronger.

ENSURE--- DRINK DRINK DRINK-
