I found out in october my dad was suffering from liver failure due to many years of drinking and overdoses due to depression. I find it really hard as i am always left to explain to all my family any more news that comes. It all seems to be going so fast as they have said his liver count is now 545 and he is also suffering from something like macrositosis a form of leukemia, this also caused by the alcohol apparently. does anyone have any info on this? i am only 17 and i am struggling to look after him, work and have time for myself and my partner. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with it and it still hasn't sunk in. I only starting seeing my dad again about 1 year ago due to family problems when i was younger. Just as we start to get close there is something that has to ruin it, he still won't stop drinking because he says he knows he is going to die and wants to enjoy it. How can i support him and myself in this situation as he is relying on me all the time?
Honey, look in the phone book for alateen or ananon. There isn't much you can do if he's not willing to stop.
I am so sorry for you. I strongly suggest you go to a face to face Alanon meeting. Go to their website to find a location nearest you. There are also lots of Alanon support boards out there. Sounds like you have a lot on you and a lot to work through. It will take a while, but you will get through this. As strange as this may sound, the best thing you can do for your Dad right now is to start learning how to take care of you.
Keep posting here to. This is great support as well.
Good luck to you.
