My son has a serious addiction problem that has gotten him into financial disaster and trouble with the law. Idon't know what I would do if it wasn't for my precious little granddaughters and thoughtful daughters through this thing with my son. He is breaking my heart with his lies and deceit. I don't know if I will EVER be able to trust a word he says. He doesn't care about ANYTHING or ANYONE, only about where his next "hit" is coming from. I almost feel like my son is dead because he isn't at all like my son anymore. Can someone help give me a boost of faith? I have faith in God, but God won't take away a free will and my son's will doesn't seem to be to get help.

HI SUSAN , MY NAME IS SUSAN TOO.. LET ME ASK YOU A QUESTION. HOW OLD IS YOUR SON AND WHAT IS HE USING.. WHAT KIND OF LAW TROUBLE DID HE GET IN. IM ONLY ASKING SO EVERYONE ON THE BOARD CAN GET THE WHOLE STORY AND MAYBE HELP YOU. IN THE MEAN TIME, YOU COULD CONTACT A ALANON GROUP AND GO TO IT FOR YOURSELF, I DO KNOW THEY REALLY HELP YOU AND THE FAMILY..IT IS CONFIDENTUAL AND IT WILL PROBABLY MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER, ALSO IT MAY HELP ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW WE TREAT THE LOVE ONES THAT ARE USING.. Thanks for the reply Susan. My son is 28 years old. He says he's using oxycontin. Had been using vicodin occasionally, but his supplier talked him into trying the oxycontin and he is majorly hooked. He maxed credit cards, didn't pay traffic fines, got his license suspended, drove without a license...lots more fines. He just had his first hearing for having a syringe...first criminal offense...plus another fine he can't pay. He is in an apartment lease he can't pay, so we've been paying that to keep him out of trouble with the law, but he's making his own trouble. Plus we've paid his loans to keep him from losting his and our colateral. We just told him that if he doesn't get some help, we are stopping the payments. We can't live like this anymore!

Devangreb,
I'm very sorry you're going through this. I've been through it with family members as well. The unfortunate truth is that those closest to the alcoholic or addict (mother, spouse, brother, etc.) are often the least able to prevent them from hitting their own bottoms. Have you ever tried Nar-Anon or Al-Alanon? These are groups for the family members of alcoholics and/or addicts. Here are some website links if you want to learn more, and perhaps try to find meetings in your area. You don't have to go through this alone.

These sites may also offer links to some online message Boards that offer more useful support to someone in your situation than this one. God Bless, M.
