i am a mom of 3 girls my youngest is 7,there father,my boyfriend, for the last 18 years is in daytop and has been there since nov. we've spoke to him once, got 1 letter and visited him once.i call him they dont let me speak to him, they dont tell me anything and my little girl is having alot of problems due to this.my thing is: They(all rehabs) stress deeply there need for family to be involved in the recovery process.well i dont understand how they can cut him off from his family and isolate him in a surrounding thats nothing like his home and expect him to do well. not only that but how does this lifestyle help him be a better parent when hes not been involved in there lives enough to say he can be abetter parent.any advice here would be good im so frustrated with it .
Hi, Gina
I know it seems unfair. I miss my son so much, but it is their time to work on their own individual recoveries so that they can come back to us and stay clean and healthy. It's a small price to pay for getting their lives back! Encourage your daughters who are missing him to write in a journal to him to give to him when he gets back...or even just to vent their feelings. You could do the same. Also, going to meetings (Alanon) would be very helpful to you and that would help him and the girls too if you were getting help with your frustrations. Just some ideas to help. You can deal with this if you take it one day at a time. Take care and God bless!
