Hi, my name is Rachel R. and I'm currently going into my fifth day of withdrawal from Suboxone. This is a new drug, but I was prescribed (not cheap, either) by a detox doctor. It was orginally prescribed to get me off of methadone (which worked), but now I'm experiencing horrible withdrawal from the Suboxone. I have a small child and can't just lay around the house, waiting to get "over it". I feel like I'm alone and that NO ONE can help me through this. This drug is an opiote (sp?), but on a higher level than vicodin, hydrocodone, codine, or any of the other narcotics in the same class. The doctor gave me something called Clonidine, but it really makes me faint and very dizzy. He prescribe me anything else (despite the HUNDREDS of dollars I have paid), and all I want more than anything is to get through this physical part. It's pretty rotten as I'm sure everyone knows. I would greatly appreciate and and ALL advice anyone could provide for me. Are there vitamins that help? Does drinking lots of water help? And most importantly, what is the average time one spends in narcotic withdrawal? Is it over a week? I've heard so many different things and I just need help. Mentally, I'd be happy never to take another pill again, it's just the physical part I'm having trouble with. Is anyone out there on Suboxone or know anyone else who has been on it? Please help me, please. I want to keep my job and take care of my daughter. I keep telling my doctor that I HAVE THE RIGHT TO FUNCTION! I mean, don't we all? Thanks for all who read and reply.
Very Sincerely,
Rachel R.
I am on day three of sub. I feel okay, but I don't know what will happen when I stop taking them. I didn't know until your post about the withdrawal from sub.
As a matter of fact I just read the paper work that came with the meds a. m
And read it was a narcotic. I had no idea! Do drink a lot of water it does help.
Keep me updated okay!

stlife, why are you having to go thru w/ds from sub. didnt your dr. detox you? if not why? im also on suboxone taking 8mgs. q day and my dr. and i had a disagreement over me going to aftercare group, i wasnt getting anything out of it it was 1hr. a week and all the people in there are ther for major methamphetime busts, im talking like 1/2 pd. busts and i dont feel like i wasnt relating to them, i mean i know addiction is addiction but the hour was being eatin up with their problems and i was kinda left in the cold with my pill addiction and these sessions were 56.00 so she said she is putting me on detox, dropping me down in 10 days so if what your going thru is from a taper down detox well im gonna raise hell with her(dr.) so let me know please.
Hi Rachel,
I'm on subutex (i'm not sure if its exactly the same as what your on??) and have been doing a slow reduction, i feel fine, infact this is the best i've felt since i was a teenager-am now 30) i'm now on a very low doseage now-2mg, but i was initially on 100ml of meth, its taken me nearly 3yrs to get this far. I live in england so maybe the procedure of getting a perscription is different to you. Could you not tell your doc that your having problems functioning with day to day life and would prefere it if you could taper slowly, only a sugestion as i dont know your ful circumstances.
GOODLUCK
Gabbi
Oh Yeah, deffo drink plenty of water it'll help flush your system

Oh, yes, Suboxone and Subotex (sp?) are basically the same drug, except yours does NOT have any kind of narcotic blocker in it. That's the only difference between the two. It is designed to get you off of any narcotic you may be addicated to. Yes, withdrawal from it does occur. Actually, I called my local drugstore (who had to look the drug up in his reference book!) and discovered that the withdrawal from Suboxone (and your drug) is about ONE LEVEL LOWER than methadone withdrawal. The withdrawal will depend on how long you were on the others, sometimes, it's just unavoidable. They prescribed me Clonidine, but because I have slightly low blood pressure, it makes me faint. It sucks big time, that's the only thing I had to help me and my doctor is being pretty difficult about calling in anything else for me. Anyway, please tapper down as SLOWLY as you can. It will help with the withdrawal. And like I stated before, I'm not sure just how long this is going to last. Tomorrow is day six for me. My NA group keeps saying that's great, but I have a strong suspicion that they would say ANYTHING was super! Don't get me wrong, they are a good group. BUT, I know me! And you know you, too:) Believe in yourself and never deter from your goals.
Thanks for writing,

Racheal I know EXACTLY what you are going through. I have been taking Suboxone for a few months and too have been trying to stop taking it. I am down to 2 mg or less every 36-48 hrs., but still can't completely stop without getting sick, whick is causing me much grief because I am pregnant. I have no mental addiction or craving just start to get the physical withdraw symptoms. If you find anything out PLEASE pass it on. I am desparate to stop!!

Fancy-
My doctor told me I was suppose to CUT the 2mg pill in half during the tappering off period. This didn't really work for me. Personally, I found that my pill would just crumble when I went to cut and then I wouldn't be sure I had taken enough, you know? So, I ended up just taking the whole damn thing. It was awful for me, so I just decided to stop. My doc sat me down one day and asked me how long I had been using any and all opiates. I thought hard and knew the answer was at least 3 years. He looked me square in the eye and told me that NO MATTER WHAT, I would experience some withdrawal. Well, this just pissed me off! I mean, I have no insurance and this s*** (excuse my french) isn't cheap. So, I just made the decision to do now and get the heck over with. It was worth it. But everyone seems to be different. I just hated not knowing how long it would last, you know? But I do think a lifetime of "clean" is worth a week to me. There are things they can call you in that shouldn't effect the baby, really. Anyway, that's my advice. Hope that helps you some. Oh, by day 9, I felt FINE. Honestly:) I was so happy and PROUD!
Good Luck,

Hi
Congratulations on getting off opiates and the Sub!
My boyfriend is in the middle of getting of the Sub himself. What did you experience up until Day 9? My boyfriend is at Day 6; however, he had a mishap with Tylenol No. 3's (didn't know it was an opiate) and set him back a little bit, but he seems to be back on track.
He seems to think it's taking extra long. Let me know how it went for you.
It'd be appreciated. Thanks!!
Peace
Mickey

I went to my detox Dr. yesterday and said that Sub. isn't for long term use. I have been on it for 7 days, I only have enough for 3 more days. Then my Dr. said when you are done with
the Suboxone, being taking Subutex. That way I won't become addicted to the Suboxone.
The subutex has less narcotic in it. Think he is weaning me down. He said in my case the pain pills are out of my system. I hoped that helped you :-)

From what my doctor said the longer your on the sub and the more you take the worse the withdrawal, Im personally going to try to taper and be off in two weeks. My doc said everyones different but he tries to get everyone off by two months, the quickest was 8 days, it depends on the length and type of pills you were on before the sub. I feel pretty good now but I know Ill have to contend with some withdrawal when Im off the sub for good.
Good luck

Today is bad!!! My tooth is infected, which kept me up ALL NIGHT:( Anyway, now I feel horrible and my chills suddenly came back again (I hate the damn chills). Anyway, what should I do? Do I only feel bad because of the whole tooth situation? Is it a sleep thing? Please, please someone help. Why would day 10 be worse than day 9? I just don't know.
Sincerely,

Hi Rachel
My boyfriend says that after he has a bad night of sleep (or no sleep really), he has his worst days the next day. I think a lot of that has to do with lack of sleep. It weakens your body considerably and your mind. But the whole tooth thing cannot be helping - toothaches are the worst!!
It will get better!! Keep your spirits up!
Peace,
Mickey

Rachel, I'd go see a dentist and get antibiotics for your tooth infection, at least. I've heard that if the root canal gets infected, it can cause fever, chills, the whole deal. I don't know if that's what is going on, but the tooth infection will need treatement either way, right? process of elimination. Good luck, M.
Thanks for those who wrote to back to me. I swear today was the absolute worst!!!! I did go to the dentist (bringing two children right along with me as well) and he told me that it looks pretty bad. I was already feeling pretty bad, but then he gave me a script for antibiotics and VICODIN. It scares the s*** (sorry about the bad word, but it's true) out of me. I mean, I don't want to have to take it, but this tooth is really bad. Does anyone know how I should handle this? The dentist said that it would take at least two days to get the infection down and that I would need a painkiller of some kind. I just don't know what to think. I mean, does this mean I'm back on the wagon if I take them? I had to work from 10pm-2am (I work overnights now) and knew that I would be in serious trouble if I didn't take SOMETHING!!!!! Anyway, I feel awful about it. Please, tell me what you think.
Also, I do believe the combination of NOT sleeping and high infection probably caught my body off guard. I didn't make the connection about the infection and the fever until I read the email. I really think that the Suboxone kept the pain of this tooth under control and that why it's coming down so hard now that I'm off it. Does that make sense? Anyway, I'm going to TRY and get some sleep, but I really do appreciate your thoughts on this subject. I know taking vicodin for pain (and pain ONLY) can and is a different experience than taking it just for the high. But am I playing with fire here? I don't know, I'm scared, really just scared.
Love,
Rachel REB

Hi Marina
Just wanted to address something you wrote. You said that your Dr was taking you off Suboxine and changing to Subutex because he didnt want you addicted to Suboxone and Subutex gas less Narcotic in it.
I am afraid he has misled you or I have misread your post lol. Both Subutex and Suboxone contain the same amounts of Burpenorphine (the narcotic part) but Suboxone also contains Naltrexone, an opiate blocker. However when taking Suboxone Sublingualy (under the tongue) then the naltrexone has no effect. It is just put in to stop IV abusers injecting it. Thats the only difference.
Hope that helps
Paul
