My mother in law has been very ill the past two years. High blood pressure, electrlytes out of whack, low potassium, and sodium. She is 72 very small and frail with osteporisis. she has been in and out of the hospital for 2 years. abotchtched bowel operation by a doctor plus other things.
About 2 1/2 years ago she went on a plane trip when she returned home she went on a bender. She is a binging alcoholic, hides it very well. when she came around she did not remember going on a trip still doesnt. Some of her memory was gone but did return. she has not admitted to anyone that she drank upon her return home. She has not touched a drink since then. On friday I called her she sounded like she was drinking. she said it was the morephine. Saturday she ends up in the hospital again. Monday i go to visit her and her mind is in a terrible state first time I have ever seen this from her. She is talking about a conspiracy in the hospital all kinds of wierd things. The family is quite concerned could this have anything to do with her drinking friday nite after not having a drink for 2 years?
If she hasn't really been drinking for 2 years, a big binge could hurt bad. DOes she have alzhimers? What other kinds of drugs is she taking? It might not be wise for her to drink while she is on them. I would be honest with the dr's and keep a close watch on her.
