I have a freind who uses cocaine through a needle (intravenous). Maybe I'm naive but I assume that anybody who does that must have HIV. She told me that no one shares needles anymore since the whole AIDS epidemic. Is that true? I hope for her sake it is. She said that using needles is the only way that she can really get high. Everyone is trying to get her to rehab. Besides using drugs she is an amazing person.

to contract HIV via needle, the needle would have to be contaminated with blood from a person who is HIV positive.
If you friend is shooting up, but isn't sharing needles, she is safe from HIV. If she is sharing needles, she increases her chances of contracting diseases of those that she shares with, including Hep and HIV.
