Hi everyone found this site a couple of days ago and have been reading alot of the posts, its a change 2 see that there are people out there who can be so helpfull and supportive of other peoples problems and battles as addicts.
i have been using heroin now for 3 years and have only been clean when i went 2 prison last year for 4.5 months.
i slipped up in prison and used a couple of times but i promised myself that when i was released i would not go back 2 it.
i lasted 4 meager days then talked myself into just the 1 smoke, even tho i knew where it would lead i convinced myself i was stronger than i was before and it wouldnt grip hold of me again, that was 7 months ago and ive been using everyday since....
i tryed meth and never stoped using while i had a script that was last year before prison so at the moment i have just the 1 habbit
i despreatly want to sort myself out and have brought my habbit down from a gram a day to about a 0.2 aday. ive got 1 hit left for tommorow then my detox begins. Im at a mates house who does not use and is helping me stay strong, we both planed my cut down and that tomorrow would be my last hit so im getting real nervous about then next few days. i was hoping that a few of you nice folk out there could give me some advice and stratagies for coping with the detox and the cravings and triggers after and during my cluck,
Im doing it bear back with no medication or anything bar pot so im starting to get anxious and panicky that ive only got one left.still im surounded by my mate and his mum who are not letting me out of there sight for the next week.
Any advice would be helpfull thanx, will be checking the site regularly and reading your posts witch are helping alot already
Thanx 2 you all
Jason
I used mainline for almost 3 years without any long breaks "only a day or two without it" here and there. I am now nearly 1 year clean May 12th. I tried to ween off so many times doing less and less til I could stop "never got past day 2". I got into a methadone clinic for eight months to get where I am now. The 1st few months were the WORST. Don't think as soon as you stop, LIFE will be awsome. At first you will question why you even stoped at all. I wish someone would have been honest enough to tell me that back then. Being sober is BETTER and life gets so much better but, it is SUPER hard to get to that point. After the sickness is gone the CRAVING is not. Even now I'll still get that feeling in my chest I'll want so bad to get some, you FIGHT IT. i HAD TO CUT TIES with everyone I knew they all used. You have to change the way you live and the way you think. If you keep doing what you did using, you'll go back. The biggest battle is mentally after the 1st 5-6 days off. If I could have stoped without the methadone it would have been so much better. The methadone was a band aid and I know people still going to the clinic YEARS after stoping H. Methadone was a god send at the time but, you know what it took 17 days after weening off done to SLEEP or feel right. No H on earth takes 17 days to get over! The done was a lot worse getting off then stoping H. I wish you the best of luck I don't wanna scare you I want you to know it takes time to adjust to not using, it's worth it 100 times over thou.
Jason,
WELCOME!
My name is Darin and I am a recovering addict of 6yrs. Here is what I tell everyone starting out on the road to recovery.....GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE!
I to did it raw(cold turkey)and remember every bit of pain....which is one of the main reasons I am clean to this very day because I NEVER have to feel that way again. Eat as best you can and drink plenty of fluids(WATER and juices....natural/100% if possible), and exercise. That is the physical...as for the REAL work on Jason....start to replace your old behaviors with new and improved ones that will make you a better you. Remember......cravings come from thoughts and that is were you use your power of choice because the only way you can relapse is if you choose to do so. Do all the things that addiction prevented....take a walk, paint a portrait or write a book.....do ANYTHING that does not involve drugs. Get rid of all old "friends" that you had while using(they were never friends to begin with). Start to De~program yourself from an addicts way of thinking because we become programed to the pain of addiction after a period of using/time. Start to identify with your triggers and learn them well so that you will be able to spot them head on and be able to battle them to the fullist! Hope this helps....all the best to you!

Welcome, welcome--you're in the right place for advice & support these folks are great, lotta experience here. I will not lie to you this will be hard, maybe hardest thing you've done in yr. life but it is worth it.Sounds like your head is in the right place,& THAT is 90% of the battle. Physically, you have to understand what yr. bod is going thru --you will have an adrenaline overload & I have found that avoiding sugar, as much as you can, (will be hard you will crave it, but try)seemed to help me, because too much sugar can produce/magnify withdrawl-type symptoms. You say you are looking @ old posts- I've written a few about Food(check back in the 51-100 page);I found that eating right, as soon as I was able (it will seem impossible but after the first 72 hrs. you will get an appetite-if not, FORCE yourself to eat a lil something. Yr. bod needs fuel to fight) helped me get back to feeling if not normal, @ least not so bad. EXERCISE is so important, gets yr. natural endorphins going again--no Iron Man stuff, just walks, increasing in length each day, really really works.Good Luck to you, Rogue--Keep Posting!!
PS-- Sorry forgot one thing:Hot baths or hot showers can offer a bit of immediate relief in the initial 72 hrs.Good luck!
i agree with darin cold turkey is the way to go (great post darin) just listen to all the advise everyone has given you here and you will be ok! and remember dont pick up the first one its the only one that really counts.
Jason,
PS......Add to the mix a commitment and a will to live and you will be well on your way! And for the food....GO ORGANIC if at all possible.
Thanks BruceB!

Just a quick note to say thanks to every1 for there advice and support, i hate the way you can feel positive about recovery one minute, then next minute the inner voice is telling me that im gunna fail so i should just give in.
Luckily i have my mate about for those times of weakness who reinforces my resolve to not give in and beat this.
well ive done in my last little bit so i know in the next 24 hours its gunna start.
the fear of failure comes and go's,i know this is my best chance with the support ive got so ive got to work it and beat this, i want to live again not just exist.
So thanks again for the posts i really do appreciate you all taking the time to reply to me
And well done to all of you for getting where u want to be in life, knowing that people can beat this gives my alot of hope
all the best
