New And Need Help

hello all my name is tony and drinking has been destroying my life and i am going to get help, and would like help from others if you can. I am 29 and have been drinking beer since i was 19 years old Last week i was drinking alot just to get to sleep at night and when i woke up in the morning i had the smell of alcohol on my breath even thouhgt i would brush me teeth in the morning and my boss noticed it. i work in the health field and a nurse pulled me aside and asked if i had a problem i told her no i only have a few beers at night (a few to me was 12 to sometimes 15) then she gave me a piece of papper with a guys name on it and his # to a recovery resourcs center. luckily i took her advice and called him and made an appt. , because the next day i went back into work i got pulled into the office and got written up and was going to be fired, but i told him about the appointment that i had so that saved my job for right now. At the first of 2 assestments i was told that i am alcohol dependent and she was talking to me about the pill ( Naltrexone /Revia)that she is thinking about putting me on next monday at my appt. And yes i have cut back in my drinking i now am drinking 6 to 7 beers a night and i will not go over that because i do not want to go into work again with alcohol on my breath. Can anyone tell me about this pill she is talking about?Like how much does it cost? can u have a few beers while taking it? What are the side affects? Please help me i want to quit but it is just so hard to do it seeing i have been doing it everynight for almost 10 years and now i want to quit Can any 1 help me?
hey tony, go to AA meeting and if you have to drink something, drink some kind of non alcoholic wine
Tony,
I was a daily black out drinker.....that was over 17 and half yrs ago....thru the help of AA. Back then i like you thought i could control my drinking by substituting what i thought to be the lesser evil such as wine or beer for vodka but eventually all roads led back to the hard liquor.
You would be defeating the purpose of this drug by trying to drink while taking it as the alcohol would inhibit the remedial effects of the prescription....

You must stop all forms of alcoholic intake.....believe me i know that it sounds hard but it can be done. Can you get into an inpatient detox program with a rehab type follow up be it on an inpatient or outpatient basis?

You know you have a problem....you know you can't control your drinking and the drink no matter what it is inevitably will control you....

Try to get to an AA meeting and hook up with a good sponsor right away....I lost many a good job back in my drinking days...
Good Luck to you...MARY
You can take the meds, but you will feel nothing from the affects of alcohol. That does not mean your BAC can't be detected.

I posted in the thread of my first post about my experiences regarding taking those med in "Hello, I'm New".

Be quite honest, I am surprised you can even function at work drinking 12 beers the night before. I used to be able to drink a lot and still work the next day, then it got so I could not even go to work and function well with just a few.

I wish you all the best,
TB
