I've read many posts this morning hoping for help in getting off pain pills. Please tell me what is sub that many of you speak about? Why is it a few of you only take it for a few days and others are on it for years?
Subutex or Suboxone...buprenorphine or buprenorphine and naltrexone...basically contains a blocker to stop the effects of opiates...others will come along and give you way more information...don't wanna say anything wrong so will stop with the technical stuff now!
Some follow a short-term detox and for others it's a maintainance medication. My friend is using it to get off Heroin...he'll gradually taper it...when he stops having lapses and using H!
That's a very short answer to your question...til someone else comes along! If you google it, you'll find more info too.

If sub blocks the effects of opiates, how would it help in the longrun of withdrawal symptoms? In otherwords, if I am totally off the pain pills, and taking sub, does it help with the withdrawal symtoms alone or just if I slipped and took a pain pill? My goal, of course is to cold turkey the pain pills, but to ease the withdrawal symptoms.
Having taken about 30-45 mg a day, is there a timeframe for my withdrawal symtoms? How awful will it be? Last night, I cut back early and sleeping was tough, my legs went nuts most of the night. Would sub help that and sleeplessness? Or would sub just bring on new problems or prolong the withdrawal? If that is so, wouldn't it be better to ween off the oxycondone to ease the symptoms?

I'm really not the right person to be answering all these questions, but nobody else seems to have stepped in, so I guess I'll share the experiences of my guy...
The opiates have to be out of your system before you start the sub...so yes you do have to go through feeling s*** for a time... The sub contains small amounts of opiates so it helps with the cravings... It's a maintainance medication rather than a quick-fix or pain-free withdrawal...
Hope that helps a little...and hope it's all correct...like I said I'm no expert, jsut know what I've watched my friend going through...
Good luck x
