Just thought I would tell you about my new hobby.
Yesterday I hired an allotment. I don't know if you have them in the USA, but here in England, an allotment is a piece of land you rent for growing vegetables.
It will be wonderful to grow my own food, have a good healthy outdoor pursuit involving plenty of exercise; digging and stuff, and there will be other people around on their allotments, so I will make myself be sociable. I think it is definatley a step in the right sober direction.
Apparently. gardening is very beneficial to your mental health.
Good For You Lacey! I used to garden and Loved it...I miss it so much but with my crazy summer life it just isn't possible anymore...but I can't wait for the day to plant again...Love Gina
Hi Lacey... growing my own fruit and vegetables has been an interst of mine for years... my Great Aunt and Uncle do it... they live in Yorkshire.
It's quite a relaxing thing picking raspberries off a bush... sounds silly but it focuses the mind I feel...
I hope you grow something real soon!!!

Hey Lacey
Good on Ya and make sure you talk to your plants as you plant them imagine them growing strong and tell them of your hopes and fears, all mentally of course because the other allotment holders might start wondering if you are talking out loud to your plants LOL, are you growing veges etc and if you plant a rose get a fragrant one.
I didnt realise you were from England and its winter there now isnt it, I liked living in London for all the wrong reasons when i done my OE, Pubs and banks everywhere. One day i hope to go back and do an AA meeting just to sort of put the demons to rest of my time there
Happy growing Lacey

Fantastic Zac! Yes, I absolutley will talk to the plants. I am the kind of person that hugs trees so talking to the lovely vegetables I will be growing is wonderful.
There is just one sticking point for me with all this, and that is slugs. I am very very reluctant to kill them, it's just not my thing. I considered talking to the spirit of the slug and asking it to please not eat my young plants and in return I will supply the slugs with an abundance of lettuce. Not sure if it would work. Any ideas?
And yep, I am English, I live in Birmingham to be precise. We are in the middle of winter, there has been loads and loads of rain lately. I have been to London a few times, but like Birmingham parts of it are definatley alcoholics paradise!
Love Lacey.

Hi Lacey...Ugh Slugs! I will look for my gardening book...I can't remember what I did..I know throwing salt on them kills them...just don't look...also look online I know there are "nicer" ways to keep them away....I got most of my gardening supplies from a mail order company...organic methods...called Gardens Alive...I am pretty sure they are also online...Their fertilizers are AMAZING!
