Hi, I'm new to this website and wondering if anyone has any info on ketamine addiction. I've been trying to stop using it, as well as E and GHB, but don't know what else to do. Took efexor for 10 mos, that barely helped, have considerably reduced my E and G usage - as they trigger each others cravings. Started using drugs when I was 19 and promised myself I would stop using in a few years, without much success yet. Drugs are very easily accessible in Toronto and relatively cheap as well. Still put most of extra money into using though. Really started to worry about my problem when 2 years ago I tried to slit my wrists in the back alley of a night club to find myself in the emergency room wondering why I was there. Anyway I have been on & off to a Dr, just not sure what else to try. My nose is constantly sore. All I know is that I'm sick of watching my self keep doing this.
Any suggestions out there...
Hey torontoguy,
Wow, K is a rare addiction, I only really know one person who was addicted to it and they stopped using cause it wasn't around. Doesn't help you much I know. I have used it a few times and found it okay mixed with other drugs but didn't like it much on it's own.
For almost 3 years E was my drug of choice, I took about 5 a weekend on average, but one day they just stopped working. No serotinin left, I now take anti-depressant SSRI, which should build me serotinin levels back up. E's don't work very well while on SSRI's so if you want to stop them a change in anti depressant might work?
I have a friend who started on Efexor at Easter after trying to kill himself twice (he was my room/flat mate at the time) Since taking it his GHB consumption has dropped considerably but not his E consumption. Don't know if that's helpful at all??
Are you manic at all? A mood stabliser like Lithium may help if you are. E & GHB both make me a bit manic but K never did. I'm on GHB at the moment, I drink it about once a week, I think mostly because I am scared of sex without it, or without the mania (which my lithium usually controls) GHB is like a more controlled mania for me cause living with bipolar/mania every day is hard work I tell ya. But I don't consider myself addicted to it.
I am however addicted to P (crystal meth) which stops the depression when I'm on it and heightens the depression when I'm not. So i am not one to give advice on what works for addiction and what doesn't cause I am still an addict, but the above information is fact on what I have experienced and seen, it might not relate at all or it might give you some clarity, I don't know.
Have you tried NA? It works for a lot of people. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is recommended in treating addiction so you could try that too? Posting on this site can be helpful too, but as your addiction is not a common one you many not get as many responses as you need.
Anyway, hope I haven't babbled too long, the above is purely my experience and/or info I have sought out, I'm not a doctor, just an addict wishing for recovery, but for the moment my wish to be high outweighs my wish for recovery.
Take care, let me know how you are doing
