Hi my dh and I have been taking methadone for 3 years now. It started with back and broken ankle for me and back and tennis elbow and shoulder for him. Now we are buying it on the streets and taking it daily. we were at 80 mgs a day and got down to 40 but it seems hard to get passed that. We are hard working follks with family and can't go into detox. Any suggestions on how to wean off with out feeling like I am dieing.
I want this as my Christmas wish to my kids. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Call your local detox and get checked in. Detox from meth is very difficult. Or talk to your doctor.
I know, that is what I expected to hear but I can't leave my kids! I just cant do it!!!!! I thought maybe I could do it on my own. Does this mean you don't think I can do it? I am scared and feel so helpless.
Well, honey, are you really there for your kids? I know I wasn't. I was consumed by where my next drug was coming from. Thank God mine were older by the time I got too bad. You would be doing your kids a favor. Have you attended any AA or NA meetings? You'll find a lot of help and support there.
I'm not saying you are neglecting your kids so don't think that. I know how hard it is to take care of kids when you're buzzed though. They tend to slide into the background. Well, that's how I was anyway.

Dear Fitz I would say first & foremost find yourself a Dr to work with.I know from my past how much $$ buying that off the street can be.With that type of drug I think it would be alot safer to detox through a DR.I understand not being able to go to in patient detox because of your children but to try & get off these without ANY help is well Ive heard just how hard & painful it can be.Rae on here detoxed at home on that & her story gives me chills.I hope she pops in to talk with you.I think youve yaken a very important first step by posting & I hope you continue to post & let us know whats going on....mj
Please dont be defensive but I also agree with 12... I had to go to detox.. I had to leave my kid.... I really had no choice.. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do but it really wasnt a choice.. if I didnt I wouldnt have been successful.... there is more to this disease than just getting clean.... but getting clean from meth is one of the hardest... so give them a real gift... do the right thing not the easiest or what seems like the easiest... and do it right... but in the meantime I would also start NA of AA meetings... they are free and will help you with f2f support... you will learn that you are sooo not alone and that many others have and are dealing with your deliema right now....

Sorry but feeling like you are dying kinda goes along hand and hand with any opiate. Meth just is one of the worse ones.
I have a suggestion because it is meth and you are down to 40 mgs, have you looked into suboxone, not cheap but you are buying meth off the streets so maybe spend that money a better way...
You would have to get to 30 to switch......
I will put a link for a doctor locator and with sub you only have to be in wd well with meth atleast 48 hours but then the sub itself will fix that up pretty quickly, and get you started on a road to recovery.....This can be done at home, you kick starting on a Friday dose on Monday in the doctors office.....
Pretty simple right, well no it isn't but it is a way to get you started.....

thanks! I have been talking w/my brother who was hooked on OCs and he said he could get me some sub. I just wasn't sure how to take it or how it would make me feel. Someone said it made them sicker than having nothing. So get to 30 mg then stay off of the meth for 2 days then take the sub and it should help with the w/d.?

Fitzypair - My heart goes out to you. I want to point out how dangerous that stuff is that you are buying on the street. One wrong pill could kill you. Where would that leave your children? And if you are arrested at the next buy? Are the undercover agents setting you up to arrest you?

I don't know where you live but here in Florida detox is free. You might have to go to see if you can get in a few mornings in a row but it is free to everyone. There is also a free 28 day program that the county has and then, if someone is homeless due to their addiction, the county will house them for a couple of months. So, perhaps when someone says "go to detox" it is easily done in their area and there is no reason for you to get upset. I also know that in Indiana there is also a free detox. I would imagine many other states have them also.

I read somewhere on here that unless you are detoxing from Meth or Ultram you will not die! Well why is it that you could die detoxing form meth + ultram??? I read this on a post from a women who sounded like my plight except she was taking percs. Can someone tell me what the difference is. Has anyone just taken less and less untill they were down to 0???

Hi I was taking about 20 ultram a day.I couldnt taper or CT I am now under my Dr care & on Suboxone.Sub can be a great tool ONLY if used under a DR care its cnot something to mess with.I need to sign off & do some things but Ill look in on you later take care....mj
You can't die from Utram wd it is a myth......Actually from what I have found out you run more a risk from staying on it, from a seizure than coming off.....
Now wd from any opiate is usually ok to do on your own if you don't have other health problems....My confusion lies here, most fighting addiction don't do doctors unless they are shopping for pills, so how do you know if your body can take this....

detox.... just go to detox... annoying... sorry that post was sooo repugnant to some... but detox and rehab saved my life and me from losing my kid.... If I had kept doing what I was doing which was trying on my own and not succeeding because I kept thinking that a little pill cant be stronger than me... or that I just cant leave my kid cause I am the most important thing in her life.. clean or not... or that I was in control .. or that there were no resources i just knew that even though I never checked it out for my self ... ( cause I knew everything.)... and did I forget to mention that I had been arrested.... oh cant forget that cause I didnt listen to anyone that said go to detox/rehab.. I was tooo smart and important to go there before I go into legal trouble.... but oh well didnt mean to offend or otherwise annoy anyone with my 'go to detox' suggestion.... lol..

Hi thanks again to all the posters who came to my aide and posted suggestions. I certainly did not take offense to any of them. I am a big girl and I was around the program for 10 yrs b/4 I "could do it on my own". B/4 it was PCP and Coke and drinking this time it was Rx pain killers. I did detox myself the lasttime but it was not as hard or painfull as this time with the methadone.
As long as there no one minds, I am going to hang out here while I sort thru things. I figure I can only learn a few things that may help me!

Be Very, Very careful with this drug. Methadone W/D is not to be taken lightly. I got off of these things last year and I thought I was going to die. I couldn't stop shaking or vomiting. If I'm scaring you then I have achieved my goal....do not for your kids sake, keep taking meth. I went ct of of methadone and like I said, it damn near killed me. Please talk to a dr. go to NA/AA or somewhere that can help you w/d from meth. Do not attempt this alone....

Yes, I tried and did the whole ct off methadone on my own. It was horrible. I don't recomend it. However, the choice is yours. I was clean for about 3 months then started back on the vicodin for about a year. I would get some help on this, because it will really test your endurance. Please, do not take this lightly...
