Notes From A Heroin Addict

Well ......H E L L O CONSTANTINE!!!!!!! We have missed your words of wisdom.

Our K2R (Keys 2 Recovery) meeting went well this morning. Had 10 people, counting us,show up .

Our clinic is revamping their clinic policies to make going to meetings mandatory. While the policies have been in the client handbook they were just not quite getting done. The relapse rate is somewhat high it seems so they figure this might help a bit.

When you first come to get on methadone the wait time to be dosed is a long time....everyone has gone thru it...with the new protocols they seem to have gotten the wait time for the first day for dosing down to within about 2 hours. No one feels good and they expect you to be all cooperative, remember dates and times...holy craap. It makes it hard.

For the folks on medi-cal the state requires that you counsel 4 times a month,or once a week. Cash patients counsel once a month,at a minimum, and now they have added that you attend one other group meeting once a week. Those are the rules for all new patients. For those patients that have full time jobs with take-homes it is cared for on a patient to patient basis with that patients individual counselor.

The meetings available start as early as 5am so it is possible for everyone to attend one. Our meeting is the only "patient run" meeting and we can only accomodate 12 patients. Not one patient at our meeting this morning was sent to us by way of their counselor because of dirty U/A's. That is so cool.

Being an addict myself I know how stubborn we can be and how much we dislike change. Having to go to these meetings are rubbing some folks the wrong way but in the end I think it will be a good thing .You have to do what you need to do to get clean and stay clean. If you have no intention of staying clean then you are wasting everyones time and your own by being there.
As there are many different ways for a person to find a way that fits what they need to get clean. If they dont like our clinics way thats ok too.But I think they may have something good here if people will only give it a chance.

Have a good day......
Hey Con, no fair doin' drive-bys! How's life?

WHAT GOT ME ON THE RIGHT TRACK WAS PhD JOAN MATHEWS LARSON's approachJOAN MATHEWS LARSON " Seven Weeks to Sobriety: The Proven Program to Fight Alcoholism Through Nutrition" and "Depression-Free, Naturally (7 Weeks to Emotional Healing/7 Weeks to Eliminating Anxiety, Despair, Fatigue, and Anger from your Life

My Story/History/Journey:
I do not have any desire to ingest alcohol, use cocaine, methamphetamines, smoke marijuana or use any other substance but I have a huge appetite and tolerance for heroin.

When I started using opiates it felt like it was for medicinal purposes. After feeling so proud to be someone with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder who did not self-medicate- I could only white knuckle it for so long.

I wish someone would have introduced me to a holistic approach from the beginning, then I probably would not have had to resort to using opiates to calm the severe anxiety and depression. It was like a breath of fresh air to use opiates!!!

After being on these pharmaceutical S.S.R.I's for 9 years -that really did not help- and none of the prescribed anti-anxiety meds ever helped - YOU KNOW WHY??????

Because a psychiatrist NEVER bothers to test your neurotransmitter levels in your brain or your hormone levels (which can affect your moods and energy) and it is such a simple urine test to get at least a baseline. They just assume that it is just seratonin or norephinephrine- not to mention the mega $$$$$ rich pharmaceutical company kickbacks for prescribing their meds$$$$---

All the SSRI's did was make me feel groggy and want to sleep all the time. It was not addressing my real underlying physical issues. Anyway, once I got on the right track

1. Nutrition (which not even the state funded treatment centers start with that basic necessity!!!)
Live, green foods, fresh vegetables with some fruits...

From this book, I weaned myself off of the pharmaceuticals and started supplementing my brain and body with nutritional supplements and AMINO ACIDS that were going to FEED my brain and create the neurotransmitter levels that I needed instead of just Inhibiting the Re-Uptake) that the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors were doing.

I went to a Kinesiologist/Master Herbalist and someone who does Live Blood Analysis so I could see what was really going on in my body. I learned that I had Adrenal Fatigue from having PTSD for so long and prolonged and on-going stress; and my hormonal levels were out of whack- and I had candida and food allergies I did not know about- so I started there and immediately started feeling better. Then I found an M.D. who followed a holistic approach and got my insurance to cover what I was paying out of pocket to natural practioners. From there I could afford to do so much more (testing and otherwise) I found out I also had Lyme Disease.
No wonder I was using to feel better!!!! Heroin gave me energy to function. I totally felt "normal" and good on heroin and could not function prior to using heroin (on S.S. R.I.s)

I am continuing to follow a holistic approach and my usuage had decreased dramatically.
I go to NeuroFeeback and that helps a lot with my anxiety, I take Glutathione I.V.s from my doctor's office and that detoxes my liver and gives me energy and takes away my cravings for using heroin and the next step is to find somewhere where I can go for the first and hardest 30 days transitioning off of heroin when I am going to be zapped of energy where I can do daily glutathione IVs and Myers Cocktail (IVs of mega vitamins/minerals) to support me in the transition phase. I know once my health issues are resolved and I have my energy back I will not have a reason to put a toxin in my body.

That is my story... I also found Dr. Marvin "Rick" Sponaugle, M.D. outside of Tampa, FL (google "Florida Detox") and he is treating folks outpatient (2 hours per day x 3 weeks with I.V.s) for 1/2 the price of a 28 day detox and getting a 91% success rate by using this approach!!!!! That success rate is unheard of---WAKE UP SAMHSA!!!! My desire is to find someone to sponsor me financially to attend a holistic program--- Dr. Sponaugle's would be best because he would address ALL my medical issues (Lyme Disease included)!!! Pretty Amazing , huh!!!!

If you would like to contribute to such a scholarship contact my case manager Laurie at Pathways, Inc. at (505) 338-3320 x301 or Jame Gilson the Program Director at x323 and let either of them know- and we could arrange an escrow account.
THANK YOU and upon my success I will write a book to help other people such as myself.

Even if they don't have the health issues I have, I know kids using heroin or opiates, alcohol, marijuana or whatever their drug of choice....are doing so to mellow out an overstimulated brain overwhelmed by this fast outrageous out of balance world- and I don't blame them!!!
