Hi, everyone
Well, I decided to take some time off and go sledding with my granddaughters. NOT A GOOD IDEA! You would think at 52 years old my husband and I would have more sense. My second time down, I spinned around and was going down backwards (so I couldn't anticipate the bumps ahead). I hit a BIG one and I hit the ice hard with the side of my face. I have a brushburn all the way down the side of my face, a few cuts, some black and blue, and LOTS of swelling!!!!! It could have been a lot worse though. My teeth seem fine, I didn't injure my eye, and I didn't break my neck! If you're thinking about sledding, DON'T!!!!!
Love,
Susan
Awwwwwww, Susan I am sorry you got so hurt. Sure is lucky ya didn't knock your teeth out or get a head injury.
You and your hubby are awesome parents, and grandparents. Real family folks. I love that. I was Blessed to have parents who made us their world. Then with the grands the same thing. Every spare moment was doing stuff with us or for us. Even more for the grands.
Sledding now though for you is out of the question, Susan. Hope you are O.K.
Can I add? Growing up my parents were like you, and your hubby. Weekends when my dad finally had normal shift work (cops usually switch up) well both days my dad would take us somewhere. We each got to bring a friend. We also got to pick where we'd like to go. We did it by turns. Oldest first.
Of course I'd pick the seashore or an amusement park. My one bro would pick a sporting event or dune buggy racing or something. My other brother???????
Yeah, yeah Art Museum, antiques shops, and book stores, and historical stuff.
We'd be so mad. Still my parents allowed it and encouraged him. No wonder he's Ivy League edumicated and cultured!!!!!!!!
Meanwhile and I tell this story often..........I'd have some jealous friend who I didn't pick to go with us say "That's not your REAL dad". REAL!!!! Like in The Velveteen Rabbit. My dad was not my biological sperm donor, but he was more a DAD than anyone in the world. So my mom helped me remedy it:
"My NOT REAL dad is taking us to Amish country today while your very REAL DAD is sitting in the bar again all day. My NOT REAL DAD is a FATHER and your REAL DAD is just one in name only cause he never spends time with you or your siblings or mom. I rather have a NOT REAL DAD then".
Bust em. Boy, my mom is the Queen of comebacks. She'd take a knife and twist it. So here I was running around the hood defending my not REAL family.
Take that all ya smart mouths.

We can't just pick ourselves up from a tumble and go on anymore, huh, Susan? I went roller skating last year. I thought: once a skater, always a skater. Right? I nearly killed myself!!! I was hobbling around out there like a 90 yr. old woman and when I fell, I didn't think I'd be able to get up again. I was in bed for a week after that! It really bites to get old!!!! We still l;ook good though!!! And we're definetly the coolest! Always!!
Dear Bryn,
My family is definitely my heart. I would do anything to make them happy. I am just relieved that I was the one to get hurt rather than one of my kids or granddaughters. That would TRULY hurt more.
Dear Shirley,
I guess we have to admit to ourselves that our bodies are getting old (and we should be more cautious) even though our spirits are so young. Those (our spirits) only age if we let them. Guess I should stick with playing in the sandbox with them or doing crafts! My sister told me that her 17 year old was headed out to go sledding the night before I went and when he got there he saw that two girls from his school taken away with injuries and had common sense not to try it. She said that if she had known we were going sledding, she would have told us. Everything happens for a reason. I swallowed my pride and went to church today with a disfigured face. I felt I had a LOT to thank God for. I could have broken my neck or lost an eye in that merciless ice!

I do alot of crafts. I crochet. (usually dog sweaters or pet beds) and I also make beaded jewelry. I especially like to make pet collars and leashes and all things pertaining to pets. I used to make an herbal flea shampoo that was reaally neat. Sometimes, I sell them but more often than not, they're gifts for friends. If not for that, I probably would've broken my neck already, trying to do the things that I used to take for granted. LOL
