Robbie,
Can you paint OVER panelling.......like the old ugly faux wood look of I guess the 70's........if you guys call it over there.........it's well what it's called....these panels people would put up over drywall.
If you know also do I need a specific kind of paint........it's not real dark......it's like a gray color...........I know this is your forte so is why I asked.....plus I LOVE your wall covering........the one that's got the pattern ya did.....I ain't gonna get fancy like to make any embellisments.......just the paint.
Thank you in advance........and if anyone of y'all happy homemakers know I'd be grateful...........thanks.
Bryn, as a realtor, I've seen plenty of houses with painted over paneling. Don't have any hints for you though...
If necessary, use finish nails to tack down uneven seams.
Wash it down with a grease-cutting detergent or TSP.
Prime with a good bonding primer.
Caulk gaps and seams, and fill and sand holes. If the paneling has a grain texture, use your finger to fill little holes so you dont create big flat spots.
Finish with two coats of good latex paint. I suggest flat paint, because the flatter the finish, the less irregularities will show. Most good paint companies now carry excellent washable flat paint.

Robbie, I'm well and from what I read, you are also.
Must be almost time for Charly to go back to school. I am off this morning to do school shopping with Dylan. He wants a pair of Adios (skateboard shoes) and I'm sure they will be around $60 and that's the cheapest ones. Oh well, if my husband didn't make money I couldn't spend it. I just pray that this kid doesn't have a growth spurt and outgrow any jeans I buy him. He will be in 7th grade this year and has to be cool, ya know?
Well, going to suck down the last of this caffeine and get on with my day.
Bryn, good luck with the painting!

Oh boy, I got a host of decor questions. Like how the hell do you hang wall paper, coz I've got a great big house, and every single wall is covered in hideous peeling wallpaper, layer after layer, and under all that the plaster is falling off the walls. I got a great big job on my hands. I figured I'd just cover the whole house with lining paper and just paint over that. But the plaster, it's full of bumps and lumps, bits have been skimmed, and that has blown, pipe work has been shoddily covered up by lumpy filler. I got no window sills - just the plaster, which has been wallpapered. All the gloss work has gone mouldy and black and is all flaking. I've got leaking pipes, no bottom step on the stairs, I gotta do tiling, every damned thing you could think of! Know any good handy men in Wales, anybody???

Hi Robbie, well I went to Wilkies today, spent 200 on lining paper and paint. Three rooms are stripped already and I'm hoping the stairs will be repaired by Monday, and I've got the number of a bloke who will do painting and decorating off the books. I can't afford to pay 6 - 8 a roll, so I'll have to do with this "on the sick" bloke, who'll do it a hell of a lot cheaper. If I can get the lounge, the kitchen and one bedroom done, it will be a good start. The thing is, it's a beautiful house, and in my minds eye I can see the finished article, and it's going to be lovely. I'm gonna sand and stain the boards upstairs, coz I love wooden floors, it's got fireplaces in 2 of the three bedrooms, the lounge and the dining room, but except the lounge the rest are bricked up, so I'm gonna get a builder friend to knock them out for me. I've always wanted a real fire in my bedroom - it's going to be so cosy. I'm doing the whole house neutral, except the chimney brests, where I've got special expensive wallpaper. Laminate floor in the hall, carpets in the lounge and dining room and a carpet in the babies room. It will be gorgeous when I'm done, I know it will!
Wish me luck (and courage!!!)

ps. When I was on the gear, I had no pride in where I lived, and they were invariably grotty dumps. This is my opportunity to make a proper home for myself, a place that provides comfort and nurtures me, which is why I'm making such an effort. I want a home that I'm proud of!

..Decorating can take ages to sort out when ya got all kinds of stuff to do..time consuming and expense aswell..but tis better to take it easy and get it done properly rather than get a rush job done just to get it over with..in the end im sure you'll be more than happy with it all..good luck for sure getting it sorted..Robbie..

Ahhhh Bryn, mmmm mmm mmmm a praline! My MIL has 2 pecan trees in her front yard, we have one but it's only 8 ft tall. Those pralines are soooo good, but one too many and you get a sick tummy and headache from the sugar. I've never tried to make them. I have an awesome recipe for some pecan cookies...ooooo they are so good.
I'm needing to cut back on the sweets and it's so hard cause I love to cook. I made monkey bread Sunday and it looks like I'm the only one eating it. Will have to get clothes from Ahmed the tentmaker if I don't stop.

Yeah, Robbie, I came to the same conclusion... had a builder friend of mine come in and skim most of the walls. It's coming together now, but f*** me, it's hard work!!
Got no time. Busy busy busy!!!
