Just got back from the neurologist. Next Monday I am having a discogram done on my C3, C4 and C5. I guess what they do is inject dye in between the discs to see if they are the cause of your pain. I'll tell ya, I am ready to go under the knife, I am so tired of having it feel like someone has an axe buried in my upper neck. I already have a steel plate between 5, 6 & 7, the bones have long since fused and I would love to have that sucker cut out.
Tim, I got that Glucosamine stuff and took my first one when I got home. I hope this stuff helps.
Anyone who suffers from continuous chronic pain knows how depressing this pain can be. I am tired of hurting, it gets so old. I just wish it would stop.
They told me when I had the first surgery that I would possibly have problems later on with the discs above and below the plate. Took 3 years of relief and then it started again. I have had neck problems most of my adult life. I'm no spring chicken so you know that it's been almost 30 years since I've been pain free.
Say a prayer for me please, that this is the problem and that it can be fixed.
Thanks for listening to my whine.
Oh honey I know how crappy it can be...I am so sorry about your necky. I had a bulging disk for a few years that drove me crazy...pain down the arm..arrrrgh!!! I had to sleep witha rolled-up towel under my neck. I had a traction device at home using water as a weight and it really did help. I am very careful not to bend my head back too much.Thank God it rarely bothers me. Hopefully the test will reveal more and you can have something done to relieve you of the misery.Poor thing! It makes you not want to do anything...especially housework....Keep us posted.Hope all goes well...Love,your buddy in pain Sharonn
Thanks Sharonn, I know you understand. Geez there's days where I would like to operate myself.
I just read Jeff's post and it looks like he's in alot of pain too.
I need to find a Chronic Pain site so I can whine and have people understand better. Did you mention that you had found one? If so could you email me some info? I would appreciate it.
I get so tired of being continuously in pain, and yes, my house needs a good cleaning like there's no tomorrow. I did so good in that manic phase, still had awful pain but at least my house was clean.
You know you get to the point where you always have this pain and just don't know any different, but it is so aggravating. Maybe I should have pushed the issue with this dr, but I get tired of all the dr visits too. I met my $300 deductible the second week of January and it's still gonna cost almost $500 for this procedure. Enough already, just cut me up and get it over with. Sorry, been a rough day today. I did some walking at the mall today and then at Walmart, plus I'm trying to get back into it at home. The dog having surgery kept me out of it for almost a week. BTW, I finally took off her cone, she is soooo happy now. She even laid on the floor this morning and was rubbing her back plus went on a running spree in the LR. They said 10 days, but she looks well healed so I said let's get rid of it, plus she's not licking at her stitches so she must be pretty healed.

Janet:
In no way am I trying to undermine your pain...this is only a suggestion, but you really might want to consider working with a good yoga therapist. I know one I can recommend, she will actually come to your house if necessary.
Anyway, I know there is relief in yoga for you. It may not make it all go away, but then again, it can! You sound like you are in the place where anything above a minus is a plus.
Let me know if you want any information on this.
It is fine, if it isn't your cup of tea...but I have seen the right work move mountains for people.
Wishing you well,
Sarah

Thanks Sara. Right now the thought of any kind of stretching is painful. I would like to learn yoga, bc I know it would benefit me. I do stretch daily, or try to, they gave me a spitload of instructions. I don't know about an instructor, bc of $ but I have been thinking about getting a DVD on it. Do you have any recommendations? Keep in mind, I would be a beginner with chronic pain.
I know this will sound wrong, but I mean it sincerely...but, I believe yoga is an oral tradition...there is something that happens with the instructor there with you. I think it is essential. I am kind of a purist in that way, so I wouldn't know where to begin to suggest a tape or cd. If Gina posts again soon, ask her. She may have others views and resources.
As for "stretching". It is a term that is almost never used in yoga. (I say almost...because I haven't learned everything about it there is to know, but to date...in 9 years, I have never read it, or said it or heard it!) That is kind of a misconception...and I know this is going to sound hokey or weird, but...yoga is breathing into the body. As in, you would take your breath into your body, and into your neck. It is more of an "undoing" than doing. And it is subtle, but very powerful. The word yoga means "to yoke", as in the breath. Harnessing the breath.
I wish you could work with a yoga therapist because I know it would help you immensely. Also, many health insurances will pay for work with a certified yoga therapist. There are 2 that I know of in Monroe/West Monroe...and there could be many more since I quit teaching. One that I know I would recommend in a second, and if I knew more names, I could probably recommend others. There is another therapist in Ruston that I would recommend.
If anything I have said leaves you confused in any way...ask more questions. I don't want to misrepresent it at all, okay??? : )

Sarah, I'm coming close to desperate here. I told my husband that I wish they would just cut me open and get it over with. Mr. Helpful says, it's not going to help. If I can get 3 years without this constant pain I would be happy.
I will check into my insurance about the yoga, I went through physical therapy (I know it's different) and it was the most painful 2 weeks, I quit. I'll get back to you about the yoga once I find out if my insurance would cover it.

Janet:
That sounds great. You always sound as if you have really great insurance so I hope it covers it!
Anything I can do to help, I will be happy to. If I was still living in town, I would help you for no charge. I wish I could give the world a yoga practice, but especially as it pertains to healing.
Oh yeah, also...ask Tim. He practices yoga as well, and he may know of some good cd's, etc. I honestly have no resources in that way.
I will keep my fingers crossed about the insurance.

I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow. I have an order for massage therapy but haven't done anything on that, there's been other stuff going on, like with my bipolar and I really haven't about done much except get groceries. I hate being this lazy.
Hey stacy, I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I have a tailbone that was removed when I fell and broke it. I felt better when it was broken. Now I can only sit for 30 minutes at a time before I start to hurt. I dont know what they were thinking when they took it out but hurts like hell.
My prayers are with you and I hope you can find some relief somehow or somewhere.
Love ya,
April

Wow Janet,I don't think GC will help with that but give it a shot. That's heavy duty.
Tim, that neck is just the worse of my physical problems. I have fibro and I have been having pain in my feet, legs and back.
Just love this weather, last night it was in the high 60's now it's in the 40's. Fire time!

that must really suck to have pain constantly.
i am glad to hear snickers is better.
i had a problem with my sheltie last sunday, she is 13 yrs old, she was outside on our deck and my son noticed her head tilting to one side and she was stumbling and staggering like she was drunk, i took her to the vet and he diagnosed it as old dog syndrome/vestibular disease.
kinda like a mini stroke, but it should resolve on its own. i am so grateful that i didnt get a worse diagnosis, prayer is powerful, i was crying thinking this was the end. my dogs are in their geriatric yrs and so sad to see them decline. jewels

Dear Janet:
I am so sorry about your pain.
YOU ARE NOT LAZY!!!! You don't do e'thing you do and manic gets all the credit. You are still taking care of gro - that can be a job when you're in constant pain. I found it near impossible to think clearly just to make a gro list for someone to go to store for me. My pain is so much better and I promise you that my house is no where near as clean - I thought when only the 2 of us were
"home alone" that the house would be spotless - NOT! lol
I blame it all on Dude and Max.
Take it easy on yourself.
Hope you get some relief.
Becky

Yes, I am a little bit down. One of those want to take a nap days, but don't want to allow myself to do it, though sleep is the only time that I don't have pain. Well, that is till I wake up.
Who knows, I may give in to it, I just had lunch and that's made me feel a bit more sleepy.

Why would you not want to nap, Janet? On weekends that is my favorite part of the day. If I didn't have to work I would nap every single day, some twice.
