I made the mistake of thinking I talked to none yesterday about anti/D but you were the one.I would like some more info about that I have a Dr appt on Thursday and I want to reasearch that subject before hand.I don't want to go from one pill to another but I know I have the depression and I know I've been self medicating myself for years.So if you can help I will be thankful...mj

I was me speaking of the possible risks of taking Tramadol with certain Anti depressants, I dont think it is related to general opiates but specifically relates to Tramadol. Tramadol is an analgesic with opioid and serotonin-reuptake inhibiting properties so I think that must mean it has anti depressant qualities. Maybe the reason you have latched onto these? The most common modern antidepressant is from the family of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) similar properties as the Tramadol?. Prozac is an example of many in this category. I have read in many places that mixing these two drugs can cause Serotonin Syndrome. It is not very common but you have to consider the fact that you abuse Tramadol so I equated that to you being more at risk. I read somewhere else there have been reports of people getting it with mixing St Johns Wart and Tramadol. The feature of this syndrome, as far as I can remember are Mental status changes (confusion), Agitation, Sweating, Shivering, Diarrhoea and Convulsions.
Molly I am not a Dr but remember looking this up when I was looking after a patient on these two drugs. The information I have given may not be 100% but I would suggest it is worth running it past your DR. You have to think that, (God forbid) you go a bit crazy on the Tramadol and the consequences that may have mixing it with an SSRI.
