So I go to the pain management doctor with my husband, and he fesses up to everything. I was in heaven! The doctor was really cool about everything but he doesn't know to much about drug treatment. So he does the best he can. He tells us he is strong enough to detox at home. Gave us names of treatment centers that he knows are good. Tells him to get counseling and do meetings. He gives him clonidine and then asks if he wants valium.....not a good idea so we pass on that ( you know a pill is a pill is a pill), and advises us to use his name and call our family doctor to get in to see her right away. As an afterthought he asks how long I knew there was a problem....My answer was from day one. I think he thought I was crazy but I know that only he can stop himself not me. So we call the family doc I explain all that is going on and you know what they say we will get back to you. So 5 hours later they finally call and decide by phone they he doesn't need de-tox.....Are they for real !!!!!!!!!!!
I told them exactly what went on at pain management and they blew us off. Now I understand even more why so many people are suffering. It was really easy for her to give out those pills. As easy as him just calling for a refill. But then they tell you to kiss off when you need help.
BTW my husband read my earlier posts all the responses and cried......He is getting it. Hoping he will post he is computer illerate. Will make it easy for him.
Stay strong all.......and I am Tina nice to know all of you!
Hi Tina,
If he wants to go into detox, ( which is a great foundation to kick off recovery )
you can find one and call and get in without a doctors permission. But if he chooses to detox at home, I recomend starting meetings ASAP. Find an A.A. or N.A. meeting and start getting the support you'll need. Plus getting a shower and getting out of the house, as hard as it seems and as much as he may not feel like it right now would be good. It's always good to surround ourselves with people that know exactly how we are feeling. I've been through the same thing with doctors, they give the sh-- out like candy then when you ask for help they act like they don't even know you. Also Tina, I suggest going to a support group for yourself as well. Alanon or Naranon, a support group for the spouces of alcoholics and addicts is great for the spouse as well as the relationship.
They even have Alateen for the kids. Anyway, keep us posted, the both of you are in my prayers.
Take care........................................God bless.....................................Bob

Thanks Bob he has started already. Pills are flushed (by him). Chills have begun and soon it is really gonna get bad here. Found a bunch of meetings close to us. If he can we are going to try to go tomorrow. Also calling insurance company about out patient treatment tomorrow. Just going to by-pass the family doctor. Thank God for good insurance.

Hey Bob:
I know you're a musician and I wanted to recommend a book I just finished reading. It's called "Scar Tissue." It is Anthony Kiedes' memoirs, the lead singer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It tells of a life of self destruction from drugs and redemption. It is dedicated simply, To Bill and Bob. It especially hit home for me as I live in Los Angeles and have scored drugs on or about where he did. After many relapses he is clean and sober. Just a thought.

Rachel,
Thanks I'll look into it. I just finished an auto biography written by Johnny Cash,
and one by Merle haggard, they also had this demon to fight. As well as a few of my guitar heros like Clapton, Stevie Ray, Joe Walsh and a few others. This
disease doesn't play favorites thats for sure. Thanks again.

Have you heard of or considered Suboxone treatment? My husband and I both went to a certified doctor and got on the program. We start tomorrow. We went through this once. We did it cold turkey by ourselves, what a nightmare. I wasn't looking forward to that again. Sounds like what your husband is going through. From what I understand, this will eliminate the withdraw symptoms, and you should be able to maintain a pretty normal day to day life. I guess I will find out. Going through withdraws are terrible, and if something can help, then give it a try.
Has anyone else done this or is doing this? Good luck to you, and stay strong
