I was prescribed -llegally- 180 darvocet pills a month for the better part of the past 20 years. I could even get more, they would just call it in to a different pharmacy I didn't know it at the time, but I had a bone spur on my shoulder from a baseball injury. You know how this story comes out. That kind of consumtion eventually catches up with you. Three years ago I had arthroscopip surgery on my shoulder to remove the bone spur, but was left with being addicted to darvocet. When I found subutex I couldn't believe what I was reading. i immediately plunked down $3500 to get into a program with a doctor that Iound through internet research. It was like heaven to be released from that pill bottle after hiding how much I was taking from my daughterrs and the rest of the family when I visited them. Being as aI live alone it was no problem when I was home.My only problem is that my doctors want to cut me down to nothing too soon. I am on maintenance now - I started in October. I just can't get off the subetex ompletely this soon. I only had 8 mg a day for five days and then they started taking me down to 1/2 twice a day and then 1/2 every other day. That regimen just isn't working for me. When I read your posts it seems that your doctors are giving you more time to get your systems regulated. I haven't ssked them for a higher doseage and maybe that's my fault. I am going to call tomorrow and ask for mor meds as I am out out the small amount the gave me for January (22 - 2 mg tabs for the intire month). It's like being on a yo-yo. Failing any positive response from them I may try a nother doctor in my area where I'm living now. The original doctor was in FL and I live in NC. What do you think?
Hi there,
Speak to your doctor about how you feel. If you are not coping on the amount you are on, tell him that. You are risking a relapse. If your doctor doesn't get it, find another one.
On the other side maybe it is time to get off and find some support as in AA/NA

I agree talk to your doctor tell them what you have told the board.
Everyone is different on how this drug affects them when coming off.
There are a few folks here who have done the fast sub taper and had little or no problems.
What type of doctor are you seeing?

Hi There,
I have a friend who started taking sub around the same time you did and was on 8mg a day. I was with him when they gave him his first does. i know he is down to one pill a day now and he is doing just fine. I'm not sure what one pill is, but he was taking about 20 lortabs a day, so this seems to be better for him in the long run. Jimmy had the benefit of a really good doctor, so perhaps you need to tell you dr. that this dosage is too low and you need to go up a bit. Or perhaps you stick it out and maybe your body will normalize in a few days...

hello.
there is a member here....her name is "me again". she did a suboxone taper in 22 days...from very high amounts of codeine, her addiction had been full blown for years.
she is doing very well...she relied 100% on her doctor, and took her "mind" and need to medicate herself out of the equation. not saying this is what you are doing, just saying she surrendered 100% to her doctor's advice.
i hope things go well for you. definitely talk to your dr. about your fears, listen to his answers and try to make the best decision you can.
are you seeing anyone to discuss your addiction...ie, counselor? meetings?
it is a multi layered kind of thing for most of us...it goes beyond just putting the pills in our mouths.
i wish you the best.

Yes, your story is like a lot of us on the board. There are so many different points of view when talking about how long to be on Sub, and what is right for you may not be right for the person next to you. If you have concerns you really should talk with your doctor, and if you feel like the taper is happening to fast then you try to slow it down, or find a doctor that will work WITH you! Good luck, and welcome-
