I am getting ready to place an order with Barnes and Noble. Anybody read any great books (fiction) lately they would suggest?
This time of year is perfect for staying in and snuggling up with a good book. I am having a hard time keeping my supply up, I have been so lazy lately and not doing much else.
Thanks for your help!
Carol- I also love to be knee deep in books this time of year. The good ones lately: Time Travelers Wife- ?? on the author. Excellent read once you get into the rythm. The Pact-?? Kinda sad. I read Judge & Jury James Patterson's- kinda Mafia theme but good.
Just my 2 cents

Actually theres a fiction one called Scarelett...its part 2 of Gone With the Wind. The book was such a cool story.I know they made a cheesey movie of it but in noway did it compare to the book.
Lets see...Jacquline Susan...Once is not Enough
Love Machine' Valley of the Dolls

THanks Molly! I know you love those Crime stories and sci-fi.
I have read all of the ones on your list at one time or another.
I read EVERYTHING Jacqueline Susann wrote back in the 70s and ate it up. Loved her books back then.
I honestly think they help to shape me in to the naughty little drug addict I eventually became. All the pill popping and drinking was so glamourized back then. You know she died of liver disease a few years ago?
I am a book snob, and sorry if I offend anybody here, but I do not care for Danielle Steele, and the other's like her.
Thanks for you input my friend!
Anytime my friend.Right now in between my study book,Im reading Joan Crawfords Bio.I love those old movies & the stars.
Katherine Hepburn is one of my favorites.I love her stuff,I have so many books here.True mainly real life stuff but also other stuff.
Oh by the way Id love to get a catch up letter from you about life, your family etc.I realize you have so much going on but I always love hearing from you my friend....

If you like the Hannibal stories there's a new one "Hannibal Rising" I think it is. The movie comes out next month.
Carol-Oh yea the time travelers wife. I cried and cried. Good stuff. I will keep my ears open and yeah! I hate Danielle Steele as well
Carl Hiaasen is a satirist for the Miami Harald. This is his latest book which I loved.I've already ordered 6 more of his previous novels.
You will either like his sense of humour or not.
He wrote Strip Tease which was a movie staring Demi Moore & Burt Reynolds in the 80's.

Kat-I'm going to see the movie Friday.I think that's when it comes out?

I agree, I just love a good read this time of year. Living up here in the frozen north, these cold drab days you need something to keep your interest. To curl up with a hot cup of coffee, a warm blanket, is a great way to spend a few hours in the aternoon.
I just finished "Conversations with God" the series. I know it's not fiction, but if you can allow yourself to believe God is speaking thru the writing of the author, it's a great message.
Happy reading!!!

Was the book really good? How did it compare to Silence of the Lambs and the 2nd one?
Come on, inquiring minds want to know.........

HEY TINA!!! (Waving and grinning!) You can hijack my thread any ole time! Good to hear from you! I don't mind SOME love and mushy stuff, but not the mass produced Danielle type mush. I am sorry, I hate Sci-fi and Steven King. Please, King lovers, forgive me!
MJ, yes, I owe you an email......I owe many. I did get you msg. yesterday via Tina, and I thank you! We're doing good down here. Not too busy, just too lazy. Cade is super busy with all of his extra curricular stuff and sports, so that's the only reason I am getting dressed and out these days. LOL I read during basketball practice, though, so it's not a total waste of my time. Plus, I love watching him play. His team is 6 and 1, and just a lot of fun to watch, they are very good and in sync. Not one glory hog on the team, so it's a very generous team. Anyway, I will write you soon.
Jane...here's some books I have read recently and loved........
The Memory Keeper's Daugher by Kim Edwards
A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve (all of her stuff is good)
S is for Silence by Sue Grafton ( all of her ABC series is good)
Rise and Shine by Anna Quindlen ( a little too political for my taste, but good)
Also.....anything by
Richard Russo (Mohawk, The Risk Pool,The Nobody's Fool trilogy is GREAT!),
Sue Hamilton,
Jane Smiley,
John Irving,
Carol Shields,
Elizabeth Berg,
Tom Wolfe
and last, but not least.....my all time favorite.........Pat Conroy!!
Tim, I love Carl Hiassen.....he's hilarious!!
Dean Koontz....
I liked it but I like all the stuff he wrote, Stace. I haven't finished a book in months but I finished this one. Is the movie coming out so soon, Tim? I thought it was later in the month? I could be wrong though and probably am. Let me know how it is. I love Hannibal movies.
Stacey-
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!.........."The Husband" best book I've read all year hands down.I forgot about that.
Kat-You're probably right.I may have my dates mixed up but I think this may be the best Hannibal movie yet.

Kafo, Where in the north are you? Sounds very cold! I will check into the book you suggested. I can imagine God speaking to me, I do it all the time. Thank you very much for the suggestion!
