Ot--power Back On!!

Hey everyone
I live in Miami-kendall. The hurricane was a major drag. Our house was just on tv--actually our whole neighborhood. Anyway our power just came on last night.
school is out until monday-(halloween) and everybody is driving around like crazy spazs looking for gas, ice, etc. I dont want to go on an on about it but its over now and i have a lot of work to do. ------If nothing else, its a great diet plan!!!
Hope everyone is doing well!!!--fire

Congrats, Fire
We still have no power here in Fort La De Dah. I'm at work with a generator but not staying long. How's the supply of D batteries down there? Sure could use some.
Just really glad to hear that you two are ok.

Be careful with clean up.

Dear Firesign:

Glad to hear you have power. I cant imagine being in the aftermaths of a hurricane so I won't make it worse by saying I know in any way that I know how you feel. I just feel so bad for you. I hope all of the food and other supplies will be there soon.
My sister and I always tease and say roughing it for us is a motel with no room service but that is kidding. No power is not good. Are you all electric or do you have any other means of power - generator, etc.?

Daer: 12 Step:

I hope and pray you get your power back, too. Same question, do you have a generator or do you just not need one enough to go out and but?
We take so much for granted. If a storm knocks out our power, I used to do only one night. One time on the 2nd night, I went to a motel. My husband came with me but he didn't like the idea of leaving the house - afraid that would be the perfect time for a break-in - I just wanted a hot shower. We now have a gas FP and water heater so I will stay when it happens again. We won't be staying as warm this year - natural gas is going up 50% so we will be all bundled up.

My prayers are with you.
Love,
Jean
thanks guys

There are very few generators to be found and the thought of putting that much on my charge card freaks me out. But I may do it anyway. So much for my new computer. sigh. My boss has a small generator he is taking from his house to work everyday but I am on batteries at home. A HOT shower? What's that? hehe I have a friend that has a gas water heater and had planned on going to her house yesterday but I forgot where she lived exactly so I spent way too much time driving around looking for her. I had her write down her address at the meeting yesterday so I will be heading there soon. It's a little too chilly for a cold shower today.
Daer 12 Step:

So it's chilly in Florida, too.
I think it's worse with no air conditioning in the Summer but I'm hot natured.
I have talked with my husband about a generator but he doesn't think we lose power enough to spend the money. Yet we moved up here to what I call the country - we are the only subdivision in sight and there's only 35 houses in the neighborhood so I think we would be way down on the list.

I have a 12 inch TV that uses 8 "D" batteries. I need noise in the house of some kind or I feel like I will go crazy. When it gets dark, you can't even read. I keep emergency candles and matches in a drawer so I can go straight to them -
I learned that when we had the 2 nights of no power and I was lighting Christmas candles so I got organized after that.

I so hope you get the power soon. My uncle and aunt live in New Smyna Beach but they are 5 miles from the ocean and just got a lot of wind and rain. I don't think the hurricane got up that far - the bad part, anyway. They are the ones - parents of my cousin who's in the hospital. He's 56 or 57 and the doctors know he has some sort of infection but have no clue what kind. They are treating with what they think might help but he's on a ventilator and all organs are failing. If they don't find the right infection soon, he will not make it. It breaks my heart for him but he has a 23 year old son and his parents - 76 and 80 who are just fun. People flock to them but this is breaking their hearts as I'm sure it will. I'm afraid they may not pull through this at their age.
I talked with his niece yeaterday on the phone. Others were at the hospital. She told me that there's no hope. This niece is in her 30's so I thnk she wouldn't say it lightly. The dotors told them on Monday to get the family there so it looks bad.

Does your power company have a recorded message where you can punch in your acct # or your phone # and it will give you an estimated time of when it may be back on.
After a huricame, this may not be possible.

POWER ON - I will try and WILL it back on for you.
I wish it would work.

Love yu,
Jean
