Oxy Addiction Help

Hi everyone I am new to this site and wanted to say hello. I have a major problem with an Oxy addiction and I was wondering if the anti-depressnt "Zoloft" would help me out of this hell. Has anyone heard of Zoloft or Paxil working to help with the withdrawls of pain killers such as Oxy? I have tried everything else and I simply cant get out of this trap...its the knowing that it has me that hurts the most. Any help is appreciated! Thank-You all.
Hi Warhead, just wanted to welcome you to the board. Oxy's weren't my doc (though I dabbled with them some). I never had to w/d off them. I can't really offer you any advice on that subject but I'm sure somebody will come along who knows it well and can. Good luck to you, Merry Christmas, Kat
Warhead,

Welcome to the board, and Merry Christmas. Unfortunatly, anti-depressants are not one of the things I have heard are good for helping the withdrawals. There are other things that doctors can prescribe to you to lessen the blow. I would talk with your doctor, and see if they can help you with this. Oxy withdrawals are a nightmare, and any professional help you can get, would really give you a better chance of getting off of them. I personally went into detox to get off of those, and others that I was on. The detox was a blessing for me.

Now, once you get off the Oxy's if you have ever suffered with depression, the anti-depressants will help you a lot. Some started their addictions because of a underlying depression problem. Once some stop using, they realized that they had a need for the anti-depressants. Then when they dealt with that issue, their lives became more managable.

We all had reasons for starting to take these pills, be it mental, or physical pain. We all have different issues to cope with our recovery journey as well, but it is helping each other, and you the newcomer that is so important.

There are many tools to getting off Oxy's that are home remedies. There are a bunch of people here who have done it at home. With no help. Warm baths, etc., but the meds you are asking about I have not heard help with the withdrawals from opiates. The also take up to two-four weeks to even see results from them.

Hang in there, and ask questions! It is how you learn, and there are a ton of wonderful people here who will answer you. I will put you in my prayers.

God Bless,
Lady M
Hi Warhead...
Opiate withdrawls are hard; as you well know, but very much possible.
I also would suggest talking to a dr; Subutex and Suboxone (from what I have learned here) can help you get through the initial phase..
It isn't an easy road, but a road that is worth it..
Nice to meet you..
Kerry
Warhead, welcome and Merry Christmas, as you just heard, suboxone is a good way to do it, it was the way I finally quit and to me it was a godsend, Ill be on later if you want some more info.

Yes, Kerry, I did, what a beautiful place you live. I was gonna send you an email back but didnt know if I could.

Merry Christmas

suboxone is hard for me to get due to the fact that doctors can only perscribe so many to patients. So no one has used zoloft or paxil to help recover?
War, sub is hard for everyone for that reason, I had to wait a while but was persistent. Im not sure how much an AD would help, they take a while to work and by then your withdrawals would probably be over.
Have you tried having a doc give you clonidine, trazadone, stuff like that?

Johndee
I think that if you have underlying depression issues, that talk with your doc about the antidepressants. I found myself majorly depressed after I got clean, partly due to the fact that I had to let my natural levels of happy chemicals up there restore to normal. I was also depressed because I had to live without a crutch. But at the same time greatful..it was time.
I think that there are treatment centers as well...if you can swing it, I would seriously reccommend inpatient...they gave me bueprenorphine...which I think is sub...and you are 30 days away from your pills, and ya kinda learn to ride cravings out and deal with them in there...Oxy is something that I don't want to mess with....I know I am greatful that I had the option of inpatient because the cravings were so strong...
