Hello everyone
My name is Dee dee and i need help and information.
I have led a fairly quiet life as mother, wife, and grandmother. I guess you can say I lived a sheltered life. I heard of addictions and all ,and my heart went out t many , I did not undrstand addictions untill now. the most I ever took was asprins ,because I always had bad side effects off over the counter drugs. and I was really never sick Praise God. Three years ago I had 2 car accidents. I was hit from behind twice they were a year apart I was just getting over one and it happened again, both drivers were police relatives. One was a 21 year old son and the other a wife of a police officer and nothing was ever done, neither charged, both were talking on cell phones when the accidents happened. My health will never be as it was. when I went in to see the doc, needless to say how much pain I was in, Well he perscribed oxycontin, I had no idea what that was , I thought it would be in the catagory of tylonals , if he would have said I will perscribe a narcotic for you , I would have said a flat no., bit I did not know what it was, until it was too late, I blame no one except myself, I should not have been so ignorant to know nothing on pills.I checked into it 6 months later
and I got scared. I talked with my Doc and He said there was nothing to worry about and if I took them as he said I would have no problem.Three years later I still have a lot of pain and now am addicted. I spoke with my sister and she suggested a methadone clinic, well I have heard that this is just as hard to get off of as the oxy, can anyone out there give me any info on this what can I do. I dont want the oxy anymore I hate the thought of taking anymore pills, but I am still in a lot of pain and I am now addicted.thank God for my husband He has been very supportive in all of this. But I dont know what to do and I have a hard time to trust medical doctors now. How do I know they are good Doctors?May I also say that there were signs all over the doc's office no oxy or percs will be given out in this office, This should have bee a warning sign to me too, but i was very nieve . Thank You all. God Bless Dee Dee
Well deedee my husband is also addicted to oxycontin and the only advice i can give you is to try and find a dr. that perscribes suboxone it is a miracle for getting you off of oxys and you will only feel sick for maybe 24 hrs if that, please check for it otherwise your life will be a living hell espessially for your loved ones trust me im the clean wife and i know first hand, get help now before its too late.GOOOOOOOD LUCK.................................
You definately have a big monkey to get off your back. OxyContin addiction is very difficult to deal with and even more so to beat.
You basically have 4-5 options (Cold turkey, detox center, methadone, Suboxone, or a medically supervised detox).
I have heard alot of good things about Suboxone and Methadone as well.
Also you willl find that even though its been 3 yrs since your accident and you said you still have pain, that is from the pill addiction. After taking pills for a long period of time they actually create more pain then it fixes. So if you do manage to get off them you will find your pain to be alot more manageable. I sure did.
It's good that you want to get off them, 3 yrs is a long time to be on them. You probably don't even get high anymore or feel anything when you take them and they now dont even help with pain.
Good Luck!

Veronica,
DO NOT GO ON METHADONE. It is a LIVING HELL to get off. Plus, You will be switching a narcotic for a narcotic and will be back to square one. Many people may take methadone for SHORT TERM use ONLY to help them wean off there other medictation. However, I was on methadone for 2 1/2 years and if you were to stay on it for a couple months even you would be addicted and the withdrawl is HORRIBLE.....You are under a doctor's care and when the time comes you can talk to him about a plan to help you wean off and then just stop altogether. Subutex or Suboxone may be what you need but you would have to research it and discuss it with your doctor to see if that is the option you want.. By the way how many mg's do you take per day? Rae

Also if you are really in legit pain and no just pain from the pills than maybe you could look into other medications to help you for the long term that may help and not be addicting. However, I still believe you should'nt take methadone unless you are planning to stay on it forever.. Like oxy's it's very hard to get off and stay clean from. Good luck to you!!! Rae

Welcome Veronica,
Hello, my heart goes out to you. Me and my husband were in a car accident, and had the same exact thing happen. We had no idea what Oxycontin was, when it was given to us. We have been getting of meds and being treated for our accident for the last year. Now hoping that the pain is much more manageable. I would speak to your Dr.. This is what we did. They will give you a taper program, or as I did, I switched meds, then did a taper with those. I could not taper real low from the Oxycontin. Please keep us posted. Take care, Best Wishes

hi dee dee, I just wanted to say welcome!
I never had to deal with oxys, but had my lil a** kicked by vicoden...
Kiwi gave you the options....
There are meds to make it easier, and I would highly recommend aa or na to you so you can get someone who has been there to support you...
