I recently had a local news report on my personal facebook aBOUT this very topic. My methadone clinic has been getting a lot of bad press. The Statistics are very much mis-leading the news sources are laced with Propaganda about methadone. One FACT never brought up when "news" makes the statement death linked to methadone or more deaths linked to methadone then heroin is....when a OD death has occured and """""""ANY AMOUNT""""""""OF methadone is found in the blood the methadone is listed as a cause in the death. So cocaine, pot, pills, shrooms whatever else might also be in the blood might even be more the cause of death but, METHADONE will be linked as part of the Death. So if you have a addict on methadone who relaspes on Heroin and the heroin is the acual CAUSE of the overdose the coroner will list methadone as being in the blood and a contributing cause of death. For the purpose of Statics that heroin death or other drug OD will now make it look like more deaths are occuring from methadone. When on methadone and a addict relapes they might use more of their drug of choice to get the same high that they use to get... the methadone acts partly like a blocker so at 1st your not getting a high but, when you add more drugs with the methadone you set up a situation where it's much easier to overdose. you get news like this http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/2418702...ise-nationwide/ when u mix alcohol + other drugs with methadone it seems the methadone always gets the blame in the news!!. Look closly at words in the news like """involved methadone"""" that only means methadone was 1 ONE of MANY other drugs involved in most cases. Methadone stays in the blood for a long time so it's being blamed in some deaths where the person may not have even used in for a week or more it's just still in the blood.
The above quote,s verbiage has been twisted, and important facts (such as the ones ZG mentioned) have been left out or ignored- - I had written a entire 3 paragraph response to this, with sources and statistics, but I wiped it out by mistake- -@#^&!!
Ill try and go back to my sources and post them up again- - prescribed methadone. and ONLY mdone has not killed more people than heroin. ->> But ya know what has???- Alcohol and tobacco to name just 2-
