HI EVERYONE..
Just read the Post Acute Withdrawal thread and realized that, while we are sitting here and posting, we are actually helping ourselves with PAWS. It really is therapeutic...Am i correct or misinterpreting it???
I have cut and pasted the treatment for PAWS, to show you what I mean.....
P.S. Crap...i think i have PAWS
Peace to all,
Ali
Stabilization
If you are experiencing post acute withdrawal symptoms, it is important to bring them under control as soon as possible. Here are some suggestions that may help you be aware of what is going on and help you to interrupt the symptoms before they get out of control.
Verbalization: Start talking to people who are not going to accuse, criticize, or minimize. You need to talk about what you are experiencing. It will help you look at your situation more realistically. It will help you bring internal symptoms to your conscious awareness. And it will give you support when you need others to rely upon.
Ventilation: Express as much as you can about what you are thinking and feeling even if it seems irrational and unfounded.
Reality Testing: Ask someone if you are making sense. Not just what you are saying but your behavior. Your perception of what is going on may be very different from reality.
Problem Solving and Goal Setting: What are you going to do right now about what is going on? You can choose to take action that can change things.
Backtracking: Think back over what has been happening. Can you identify how the episode started? What could have turned it off sooner? Think of other times that you were experiencing symptoms of PAW. What turned it on? What turned it off? Were there other options that might have worked better or sooner?
Education and Retraining
Learning about addictive disease, recovery, and post acute withdrawal symptoms helps to relieve the anxiety, guilt, and confusion that tend to create the stress that intensify PAW symptoms. As a recovering person, you need information in order to realize what symptoms are normal during recovery.
You also need to learn management skills so that you will know what to do to interrupt and control the stress and the symptoms when they occur. Through retraining you can improve your ability to remember, to concentrate, and to think clearly. Retraining involves practicing certain skills in a safe environment as you build confidence. It includes learning to take things step by step and to handle one thing at a time so you do not feel overwhelmed. It includes writing down what you want to remember and asking questions when you think that need to have something clarified.
Learning about the symptoms of post acute withdrawal, knowing what to expect, and not overreacting to the symptoms increase the ability to function appropriately and effectively.
I believe so Ali,
I have found online recovery can be very dangerous for people as well. It becomes a barrier to Face to Face contact and sober support networking. That factor alone prevents many from actually recovering.
The PAWS info was very usefull to me. I was guided there by treatment.I would not concern yourself with that What "if" I get PAWS. Its a possibility down the road when you are clean but for today worry about whats important, getting clean and the your health during detox.
Hang on doll,
Ben

Do you mean home visits? If that is what you are talking about yes you can have a 12th step call to your home. You would call the NA hotline Ali and they will have someone come speak with you. Can I help you get that number? I think that would be very helpful hon.

I will tell you what house calls entail right here. A minimum of two people will come to your home and speak with you. They will tell you about what it was like, what happened and what it is like today. They will share with how this simple program for complicated people has bettered there life. They will tell you that half measuers availed them nothing. Its all about the steps Ali, what do you think?
This is also NOT a joke dear. If you call these generous souls to your house simply for convienince and entertainment you could kill them. They are normal people that will wake up in the middle of the night or drop what they are doing in the day and come share with you the solution of the 12 steps. I fear your motive is skewed. These people do this type of stuff because it keeps them clean. Thats how it works. You play games with them and you could kill them.
Your admonishment of the steps makes me wonder why on earth you would have them coming to your house. It speaks poorly of your intentions and quite frankly if you do it for amusment it speaks poorly of your morals.
You are under the influence right now and I get that Ali. I do. But PLEASE think about what you are doing. I have been in that cloud before and I know the thinking thing is not working well but try and do a gut check on your actions.

POST acute withdrawal comes AFTER acute withdrawal. You can't have post until you have actual withdrawal. In medical terminology post means after. What you are experiencing is withdrawal each time you drop a dose. That's why tapering doesn't work for a lot of people. Sometimes its easier to just do it and get it over with. Have you given any thought to finding another doctor? Perhaps an addictionologist? Have you told your doctor what you are doing? Is he aware you are detoxing?

Ali, You are an addict. Once you accept that you will be able to move forward in your recovery. Being an "addict" is nothing to be ashamed of. It does not make you any less of person than a non-addict. The simple fact of the matter is that non-addicts don't get addicted to pain pills. Some people may become physically dependent, because of long term use. You know the reasons you took pills. If it was for any reason other than physical pain, then your an addict through and through. I am addict, it not a big deal. I know what I can do, and I know what I can't do. Thats half the battle, for me anyways.
I had a hard time admitting I was an addict too. Once I did, things made sense to me. I could understand the reasons for my behavior, where as before I made excuses, and justifications. Are you fighting admission? Its not bad, really, being an addict is nothing shameful or dirty. Its just another part of you, not you in it entirety. You can be an addict and still be a good person too. I mean this with all due respect. One addict to another.

Ali, Im so glad you read the PAWS info. In several of your posts you mentioned that you were unable to complete small tasks, paying bills, cleaning and avoidance of certain tasks. This is PAWS. I think with your taper you are starting to feel the effects already.
I completely understand about having someone come to your home. It is reasons that this board does't know about so disregard the assumptions made about playing with people.
The other article that I bumped for you from cynical one went into greater detail. It will help you for months. It is still helping me. I wish you the best of luck.

Nope..not andie mcdowell..not angelina jolie
But great compliment..lololol
My hair is blonder than that picture, but not as blonde as Ive been in the past..lol
I thought this picture was perfect because it is blurry, like me..not quite into focus...once the drugs are out of me, i will repost a new picture, and it will be a clear one of ME SMILING...IN FOCUS...lolo
I really do not want to get into Addict for life issues. I do not see how labeling myself as an addict for the rest of my life can help me. Please do not take offense to that...its my main problem i have with "the program"
I will not tell anyone to put a label on their forehead, nor do it for them..we are more than our labels...when i die, it will not be with the WORD addict on everyones minds......I hope they will use many other words..not addict.
I am addicted to this DOC, YES...having a hard time detoxing, but i will not go down this path again..i have learned my lessons...
BEN, you insult me..you think I would PLAY with 2 people that took their time to come and visit me and share their addiction stories, take time to share with me??? You insult my intelligemce, and my morals. I would never ever do that.
Forget it..you covered what they do..Thats all i wanted to know.
Hugs to all
