46Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
48Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
49Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you." 50Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see."
52"Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. Mark 10:46-52
Good morning all! What strikes me about this passage as it relates to my own problem with addiction is the persistence and determination of the blind man. Notice the circumstances he was in! Having nothing and in need of begging, not to mention the people around him telling him to shut-up and be quiet, he pressed on. In spite of the circumstances he did not give up because he knew that the one passing by could provide him the help he so desperately needed!
I think many of us have found it all to appealing to give up the using battle when the circumstances are bleak. Dear people I believe that there is help available for all us! It is in the same one this blind man so desired. Jesus commended him for his faith! May each of us today strive to have a similar faith and may each of us know the power and compassion of Jesus Christ to help us see the value in pressing on with staying clean and sober. Peace to all.
Lovely passage!
I say Amen!
