Question About Suboxone - Please Answer Asap

Does anyone have any idea if it is better to take suboxone in the morning, afternoon, evening, or bedtime? My son is having trouble sleeping, and our regular doctor, knowing he is on suboxone, prescribed a sedative different than the medication the suboxone doctor prescribed. But now I read that you shouldn't take sedatives while on suboxone. Maybe he wouldn't even need the sedative if he knew what time of day is best for taking the suboxone.

Thanks!

Love,
Susan

Susan, I am still confused myself..lol.
Yesterday she had me take 6 mgs at once, but I felt that was too much.
She did prescribe me ONE (I am an addict, remember..lol...) sleeping pill. I haven't heard to avoid sleeping meds, but I am not a dr...
Good luck...
Kerry
Thanks for replying, Kerry. Did your doctor happen to specify what time of day to take your suboxone?

Susan
Susan, For the first two weeks, my doctor had me take 4mg in the morning and 2mg at night.

For some people, the sub keeps them awake and they do better taking it early in the day.

For others, it helps them rest and they do better taking it at night.

Now I take the whole 6mg in the morning....

Every person is different, so you have to do what is right for you..... Try a couple of different ways and see what works best.

My doctor is not allowing me to take any benzos, muscle relaxers, or anything like that while I am on the sub.... but I can take ambien for sleep. Is that what your son is on?

Susan I take 8mg in the am & I seem to fall asleep earlier say 9:30 10:00 but than Im up at 5 Im not taking anything to sleep. All I can add is to what the rest have said try different times and maybe your son just needs a time change....mj
it is still early, only day 3 for me...she wanted me to take 6 mg in the morn, and 6 at night..but that made me feel overloaded..
I go back tomarrow, and we will see from there...
I just take it as needed..
I don't think I am doing it right..lol.

Hey Susan,
I was on the Sub for a little while. I would take one in the morning on the way to work (6:30am), and one about lunch time. A good thing you could possibly try to help fall asleep is Melatonin. My girl turned me on to it. It is natural and can be bought in most vitamin sections in stores. Just put one or two under your tounge to dissolve, and it helps you to sleep much easier. (It did for me anyway). And you don't have to feel too guilty about giving you son another type of drug, like a sedative or something of the such.
Good Luck!!

Susan...I think Danielle is right. You just need to have him find out which way to take his dose is the best. My doctor said everyone is different and had told me that if taking mine all at once didn't work that I could try taking half in the morning and the other half at night. Or Morning, lunchtime, nighttime. You just need to experiment a little to find out what works best.

As for the muslce relaxers...You can be on them while you take Sub. but your doc MUST know about them. Or you can call your pharmacist and ask them. Make sure you check with one of them before you take anything else while you are on the Sub. Personally I still have to take Flexiril a couple times a week when my back hurts. I refuse to take a pain pill so this is the next best thing. I don't get high of it and it releives the pain in my back. But I don't over do it. I may take one or two pills every few days only if I have pain.

Hope that helps!
Susan,
I am on Sub. and have been for almost two months and what I have found is...if I take too much that's when the sleep problems occur. Everyone is different in the amount they need to take. My Dr. prescribed me my amount and I really don't need as much as he wrote my script for. Maybe your son needs a little less. You might ask the Dr. if it's OK to try that. Just an idea. I am not in the medical field so take it for what it is worth.
How are you holding up?

Hi, Brad

Thanks for your response. I had my son on all kinds of herbal things to begin with before he could get on the suboxone, but found out that just because they are natural doesn't mean they are safe to use together. A doctor should be consulted. I didn't know this.

Here is the website about suboxone. Read page 3. I tried to copy and paste but it wouldn't let me.

Just wanted to be sure you're safe!

Hi, everyone! Thanks for the responses and for caring enough to take the time! He tried it later at night and tossed all night. He took it early in the day, and is tired at 11:30 tonight. That looks like it will work if it keeps up that way. He's only on 4 mg because he was already detoxed when he started on it.

Dear Danielle - The first sleeping aid that was prescribed was amitriptylin (25mg)
but our regular doctor didn't like that and prescribed trazodone (50mg). The other doctor said that was okay. My son doesn't like either too much...he's trying to just change the time of the suboxone instead for now.

Dear MJ and GottaHaveFaith - Thanks for your help.

Dear Kerry - when my son tried suboxone the other time, he was just taking it when needed and that wasn't successful for him. I'm no doctor, that's for sure but 6mg twice a day seems like a lot for you.

Dear Mytime - since he's only taking 1/2 of a 8mg tablet, I don't think it's too much but who knows? Well try continuing to take it in the AM and see if he's ok. I'm hanging in there. His eyes sometimes look a little funny, especially when he's tired, but he's passing his tests. Thanks for asking.

You are all so kind and caring! God bless!

Love,
Susan
