So my husband is an opiate addict. He has a problem with painkillers. We are no longer living together and I have filed for divorce. I was hiding his drug habit from me for a long time. He used to hide stuff in our garage. Recently I was in the garage and I cane across a small container. It contained a bottle of liquid lidocaine and a package of unopened hypodermic needles. Any thoughts as to what he could have been doing with this lidocaine that he stashed away? It did not look like it was a rx because there was no name on the bottle. Please advise. Im very naive when it comes to this stuff.
Hi Strong!
So glad that you checked in . . . so glad that you have put you first. I know it was (and is) hard. Sending hugs. You are surely one strong, brave cookie. You go, girl!!!
Addicts keep multiple stashes. Don't be surprised if you find more "goodies." I think they hoard drugs. Why? So just in case they run out, or there is an act of God, or the dealer is on vacation . . . they always have something.
I continue to find my daughter's stashes . . . and she went to FL for rehab in March 2016. . . and except for 48 hours in July 2016 hasn't returned. I find them in shoe boxes . . . Under the bed . . . between the mattresses . . . in the back of the closet. Addicts seem to be the ultimate squirrels. From what I've found of my baby's stash, she had pills of all types. But her DOC is heroin. Found lots of empty heroin wrappers. But she didn't squirrel heroin away. It seems the stash is not the DOC . . . but, I guess, the next best thing. Drugs in case of emergency.
When I started this journey, like you, I knew very little about drugs. Ok. Ok, I went to college in the early 80s . . . so I was familiar with weed and hash . . . and knew a little about coke. But I knew NOTHING about heroin . . . or pills . . . or addiction. I quickly learned that google is my friend. Smile.
I have no first hand knowledge with this drug. So, I went and asked my friend, Google. LOL The articles say 2 things re recreational use of lidocaine. One, it is used to cut other drugs. That's what wikipedia says.

The other is folks are injecting it as a "speedy high." The problem seems to be that lidocaine is an anesthetic. One may not get "high". One may just numb the area injected (great for do-it-at-home surgery). In high enough doses, it may cause death. I think that lidocaine is like the drug propofol that killed Michael Jackson.

So . . . the short version of the answer is that he was keeping it "in case of emergency," . . . or he was using it to help him get high . . or he was using it as his DOC to actually get high.
Hope something in here is helpful. Sending hugs.
