Recovery Coaches?

Has anyone had experience with recovery coaches? I just learned about them.

Talking about my cravings with friends had been successful for me as a strategy for staying clean, but this has been frowned upon by my sponsors and groups in 12-step recovery.

I wonder if having a coach whom I could speak openly about my addiction might be helpful.

Has anyone had experience? What should I look for in a coach?
Recovery Coach - Great Idea! That would be better than depending on a sponsor. A recovery coach is TRAINED in how to coach. I have heard of fitness coaches and diet/nutritional coaches.

here is a link NY.gov -- https://oasas.ny.gov/recovery/coach/index.cfm This is how to become a recovery coach - interesting reading - and want to put this out there for those who may want to read more about it. and link to other programs: https://oasas.ny.gov/index.cfm?level=programs

this is a good start - of course there are going to be lots of dead ends - look for government run programs - they might be more legit, stable, and free.

There is no one answer to this question. It all depends on you and your values, beliefs and mental functioning. Where your at and where your going. I am a recoveredcracrackhead, thankful for the program of AA, although without a sponsor, but I do value my relationship with God.
I have also begun my studies in Chemical Dependency Counseling and look forward to receiving my degree in that and Recreation &Leisure. I have also completed the Recovery Coach training along with training in peer-mentoring. These facts alone mean nothing. Do not believe that because a person has attended such things that they are qualified for anything beyond sitting still for a few hours.
It is the ability to compassionately and empathically listen and understand each individuals journey. What I want out of life may not be what you want and my trying to force or sell my beliefs on you will not fulfill your needs. I seek to help and assist people on their journey. I try to remove obstacles and barriers, by providing insight and information.
I don't "sponsor" people in AA, but I will join them on their journey. I don't advise as a Recovery Coach, but I will search for the answers you request.

I wish you much success, with ever path you take.

Be well,
Larry
