Ok what gives. Its been 20 days since I quit. I have not had any restless legs for about a week, and then WHAM, last night my legs went nuts. I'm taking potassium supplements. Is this something I should expect from time to time as I recover?
20 days TODAY! Yippee! "dancing to the Final Fantasy victory music"

Hi..I have had similar..it does come and go..try hot baths since you are already taking potassium. It lessens over time so hang in there!
I read where Magnesium is more for restless less - don't know for sure - just read somewhere - I thought Potassium was more for energy but it could be for other things, too.
It wouldn't hurt to try and start back on magnegium if you want.

thanks loliverny. I guess I wll just chalk this up as one of the things to expect. I will try the hot baths, but its kinda hard, my two year old sniffs me out everytime I try and hide to take a bath. Plus my husband is starting to nag me about how he's been cleaning, and cooking, and watching the kids. while I've been on the couch for the last three weeks...but I did it for the last 12 years. Such a short memory, and I don't think hot dogs and soup compare to my full course down home cookin!

Hi Pale . I had the same problem . I kept getting the restless legs back and it was driving me nuts . It took a few weeks but they finally went away for good . After they were gone I was reading a post that said there is a supplement at Wal Mart called Restless Legs . You may want to give it a try . Rob
Dear Pale 20 days????Great job.I know this may sound odd but a real hot bath with pure lavender oil will or did help me.Than take some oil in your hand & rub it into your legs.Mine was behind my knees.Talk about pain>>>
dear michelle -
first off, congratulations on your 20 days! this is too cool and you are well on your way to healing.
restless legs is a common complaint of opiate withdrawal. what i'm going to suggest might sound like i'm whacked out from another planet but hey - this works for me.
about a month ago, i was waking several times during the night with leg cramps. i mean kick you in muscle, crying out loud cramps! i had to get out of bed and walk to get any relief. sometimes the cramp would hang on for an hour!
anyhoot - one evening after work, i had an appointment with my massage therapist. i mentioned the leg cramps i had been having. (i take a medication daily for my BP that is a diuretic and make sure my potassium levels are where they are suppose to be, so i knew it wasn't that.) so the massage therapist tells me about reading an article in the newspaper - one of those doctor's columns - and this doctor said that if you put a bar of soap under the bottom sheet of your bed, many people report that the leg cramps stopped!
i said: "what kind of hocus-pocus is this?" you gotta be kidding me! however, i was desperate for an uninterrupted night of sleep and when i came home i logged on to the net - went to google and typed in "soap leg cramps".
low and behold, as i sat there rubbing my eyes in bewilderment, i could not believe what i was reading. thousands upon thousands hits of this miracle cure and people were reporting that this works for restless leg syndrome too.
so off i go on my soap hunt. i read for some reason dove and camay don't work. i found a bar of soap that was neither of them and proceded to strategically place it under the sheet where my legs were placed at night.
guess what?
i have not had a leg cramp since doing so. amazingly strange - huh? i don't know if it's psychosomatic or what this is about, but hey - it works for me! i was to the point that i would have put a bucket of slimey eels in the bed with me if i thought i could get a good night sleep.
and here's my disclaimer...as always, check with your doctor for any condition that may concern you. i'm no physician and my suggestion above is not to be taken as medical advice.
hugs and much encouragement to you!

Thanks sammy and everyone else. I will try the soap, if it is does not work at least the bed will smell nice. I just can't deal with the leg thing. My muscles feel like they are burning. Its the biggest reason I don't feel like getting up and doing anything, and I am sure thats not helping.

Dear Pale I understand the body aches but Ive heard that lite excersize is a good way to help you work through the pain
Tell hubby that you put in the time,,now he has to..otherwise all those delicious recipes will be part of the "memory loss" associated with recovery! ha~
I hope you are feeling better..yes some things we have to accept as part of the healing..pain in the legs is one of them.Keep in mind..it DOES end.And when it does, your head will be clear and you will be able to give back to your husband and kids a woman they havent seens in awhile..you can do it!

thanks, I did tell hubby to buzz off (actually it was a little more hostile than that), went out on the deck and had good cry. I have been trying to swim a little each day, but our pool is a kid magnet, and as soon as I get in the "can I get in" starts from every child in the neighborhood. I know I am going to be referred to as the witch on the corner when this is all over. sigh.
Tomorrow better be a better day.
