Today at my recovery therapy session we were talking about the point of addiction where you are taking pill after pill trying to get to that HIGH place you love so much but no matter how many pills you pop you can never quite get there like you used to. My questions are these:
How long did it take you to realize that you could no longer get HIGH every time you abused? AND
How long after you realized this did it take you to quit trying?
I had never really thought about this question before until I looked back and realized that it made perfect sense. I could chase that HIGH all I wanted to but for some reason I just couldn't catch up to it. I came so close so many times but those were the times that I ended up od'n so I basically just passed the HIGH by. It took me a little over a year to give in - how about anyone else?
hey dawnee, i think xanax is a bit different, but the same sort of feeling wise as in the sense that, when i first started taking it, id be all relaxed and go to sleep. i could take twice that many now and just end up looking drugged, only feeling a little relief and waking up with a headache. so i dont bother...its that our tolerance goes up i guess.

It was a little different for me, I could get to that high for a long time. It wasn't until about 6 or 7 years ago that it didn't work anymore. Still gave it my damndest though to acheive it. Many a od's because of that.
Lisa, Isn't that the truth even though we weren't getting that high anymore we sure still tried are damest to acheive it. Luckily for us we made it as some haven't. Have a Merry Christmas. Shantel
We are lucky Shantel. So very lucky. Merry Christmas to you as well.
Cowgirl et al,
Did i just read that there are a number of you that - although you could not catch a buzz, would still OD??? What does the 'O.D " mean? pass out or have to go to emergency or ??
Ive never even heard that someone could OD at a time when theiur tolerance was sky high and they were not even able to get a buzz...it seems weird that it could skip over the buzz and go right to an OD..unless its mixed narcotics and opiates i suppose...but the exact same drug youve done for years and years and are so tolerant to???
I remember being warned while weaning that going BACK to what i once took could cause an OD and that makes sense to me...
Sorry, im not questioning anyones experience just trying to understand it...at the end of my pill popping i took enough to bring down a horse but never once oded or even got "out of it" It just seemed to loose all effect on me by then..
Merry Christmas
Hugs

Everybody has a point where you can OD( overdose).I was able to eat 5-8 oxys 80mg a day, but I bet If I took 15 I'd OD. ROB
I would take 8-10 pills at a time get no HIGH so I'd pop another 5-6, still get nothing and take a few more then all of a sudden I was ODing. Basically I had no control of my body, I stumbled around looking drunk as hell and feeling the same way. Then I'd just 'black out' or fall asleep, wake up and start taking more pills because I just slept through my HIGH.
Yep, everyone has their fine line...luckily I never found mine. I was taking 20-30 pills a day at my worst and could not get high after a certain point. But would then start to get so sick...that's the beginning of OD.
