Self Esteem After Quiting....tips Anyone?

I had just quit using crystal after 2 years or so i had started because i wanted to drop afew pounds...afew pounds turned into almost anerexic looking...anyways i have been able to stay sober with the help of my boyfriend for 3 weeks now but i still get cravings and i look at how i had control over my wieght and feel like i dont again now...i weigh 135 now and im 5'8 but i was around 115 when i was using, i feel like crap about myself again and dont know how to motivate myself unless i think about using again because to be honest the drug makes you feel good and incontrol, if anyone has had this same problem with self esteem please give me some advice or let me hear your story. thanks!
Take time off work and sleep, take vitamins and drink lots of ater. It won't matter if you dont have motivation without it cause you wont have the stress of having to go to work sober. Come up with new hobbies and interests, try something new. What are your talents? What is your purpose in life that will make a difference? Do stuff that makes you feel good about yourself and highlights your qualities and strengths, and love the new you! You might be a few pounds heavier but look at what you can accomplish, hardest of all giving up your addiction. Working towards goals that meaningful to you will help you to see the real you, and not going to work makes you feel free of addiction cause you dont actually need it. Small steps, take your time. Hope it all works out for you luv
Welllllllllll...nobody asked me, BUT - I think that charmed1976's above post is probably one of the most insightful and helpful I have read at this site. Some "Famous Person" said: we all have the seeds of greatness in us. For instance, I am holding down the Dream Job, I am the top weightlifter at my gym and I am pulling straight A's in college (yes, I am a returning student). I would never DREAM of doing any drugs, even though I used to do an occasional midnight toke. Everybody is good at something. Keep trying until you find what makes life worth living - and I assure you - it won't be drugs. Find a discipline that you had to work hard to earn. Art, dance, design, sports, etc. etc. - the world is full of fabulous stuff and half the fun is finding out how great it all is. My experience with my daughter's meth addiction has only heightened and emphasized my own appreciation for the good things in life. Sure, a lot of famous people with a lot going for them did drugs - Janis Joplin, Jimi, Morrison, Franz Liszt - I guess everybody tries something sometime - but you outgrow it when it is accompanied by inner personal growth and betterment. Try it - and then come back and tell me if I'm wrong. Love to all...

Thanks Auntie,

That made my day! I'm writing an autobiography on addiction and depression - the though processes and emotions that go on in our day to day living. hopefully will help society to understand us better and also give some insight to family/friends of people like me. It's not a to do book, just a glance into anothers world book. Will let this site know when I finally finish and get it published, will be ages away if I dont start motivating myself more.

Best to both of you

GO TO NA MEETINGS EVERY SINGLE DAY UNTIL YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND CAN START SEEING THROUGH THAT FOG YOU'RE LIVING IN.

A BOOK CALLED, "END YOUR ADDICTIONS NOW" BY CHARLES GANT, MD HAS A WONDERFUL VITAMIN/MINERAL PLAN TO RID YOUR BODY OF THE CHEMICAL IMBALANCE, BUT THE MEETINGS WILL HELP YOU MENTALLY.

ALSO, THE CURVES EXERCISE PLACES HAS A WONDERFUL MINERAL DRINK THAT HAS MANY HELPFUL INGREDIENTS MENTIONED IN THE BOOK ABOVE.

Rollercoaster rider,

NA does not work for everyone, your advice has been the same in the last 10 posts I have read. There is not a 'one size fits all' answer. I tried NA and it didnt work for me, not to dis it or anything cause it works for many, but most people already know about NA etc. READ THE POST! Your advice should be a response to the questions asked, or at least relevant, it doesn't sound like you are trying to understand the writings at all. Pushin NA down everyones throat is not gonna cure them, try looking a bit deeper then your own experiences.

Hey

I'm from NZ too and also tried NA...did three years and it really helped me to know that i wasn't alone in all the crazy emotions i was experiencing after quitting '"P'' (crystal meth).

i'm also writing an autobiography thing about my addiction and mental illness, and the path to recovery from both those things...

counselling definitely helped me in my journey, as well as trying to eat healthily

good luck everyone
