Son Having Problems With Coming Off Sub

Hi, everyone

I recently found out my son found the suboxone we had here before he went to rehab, and when he started to have problems with cravings, he took them (1/2 a day he says) rather than checking about getting on naltrexone as his sub doctor had recommended. My son didn't want to go on the naltrexone as soon as he came home because his counselor told him he was doing so well without any drug dependency, she felt he should try to stay away from it. He did well for a little, but I think the cravings got the best of him when he had 4 hearings in one week!

Anyway, he said he was taking a 1/2 of a 8 mg tablet about 5 times a week and just stopped when he ran out thinking he wouldn't have any problems. Well, he's VERY uncomfortable. He went into full blown withdrawal from what he says. I was following everyone's instructions and not allowing him to control my life and went out with my daughter looking for an outfit for her graduation and we went out and got a few vicodins and 1 oxycontin to relieve the pain. He admitted to it and said he's going to get right back to recovery, but he wasn't able to get a hold of the doctor before he left for the weekend, so he's suffering through the withdrawal cold turkey. I tried to talk him into the Comtrex...so far he won't. He said he's tried everything before and nothing helped. Please keep him in your prayers that he gets back into recovery and he doesn't try to go back out to get stuff again. One day at a time!

God bless!

Love,
Susan
Hello,susan
Sorry to hear about your son relapsing.Im on sub, and im trying to tamper
off.Im on 6 to 8 mgs a day.Im so scaried of comeing off of it.Was the w/ds comeing off sub. as bad as w/din g for pain pills?Just keep being there for your son and reminding him of all the he** he has been through messing with the pills.I wish you the best of luck and will be praying for him.
Dear gagirl,

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Please keep them coming! He is off with a "friend" trying to get "something" to help him through. We ALL (me and his 2 sisters) tried everything in our power to stop him. He obvioiusly was under the control of the drugs again...not caring about anyone or anything else in this world but the drugs. It hurts so badly to be replaced by a drug after you've given your whole life to your children.

As far as I know, withdraw from the sub is bearable IF you follow the doctor's instructions and wean yourself off it and do it right. My son didn't. He said he didn't realize it would get this bad.

God bless!

Love,
Susan
