Whats the overall feeling on Blairs premature(forced) retirement??

Hey jack, I think that it is about time he left, he has been Bush's b**** for years, The only things that I can actually have respect for him for are not following the orders of Bush to take sides with Isreal and not going into Iran when the hostages were taken, other than that, I don't think he has done much for England.
Still, he's still not as bad as Bush!!
Take care.

I don't know too much about it, but it seems that when opinion was largely in favor of pulling out, or when the people he represents wanted to bring their troops home, that is what he's doing and I applaud that. Imagine if that happened here, if the public who elected our officials was actually heard. The approval rating is at an all time low and more importantly, the country is overwhelmingly in favor of bringing our boys home. But who knows when that will happen. We could be there until 2050 and the situation will still be the same. It takes a real man to admit making a mistake.
Airy, Fairy,Tony Blairy has started pulling troops out, but it is too little too late.
When he was getting ready to go into Iraq along with Bush 91 percent of English people said that they did not want England to be any part of this, we knew that Al Qaida(?) had nothing to do with Iraq. Everybody knew that, unless of course they are fans of FOX news. Americans were spoon fed lies, they believed them . In England we had a different opinion, but our Prime minister did not care about that, he just wanted to be bush's boy.
All of those poor troops have died, the ones who are left will suffer PTSD and for what? OIL, thats what. This was not a war, it was an invasion, Iraq will be left with a civil war because the west had to show them who is boss.
I'ts not just the troops and their families who suffer, there are thousands of Iraqi people who are living in this mess.

I stand corrected about Tony Blair then Karen. I do however agree with everything you said. And while some believed the/his lies, many of us did not. Many of us can think for ourselves. It didn't take much at all to know what it was about and that Iraq had no involvement with Al Queda. But remember, at the time, party line was to because it had WMD. This excuse has changed over the years. WMD isn't even mentioned anymore. Bush is a fool and Cheney is a felon.
Hey Intoodeep, I tend to get a bit excited about this subject, I know that not everyone believed the lies, yes WMD was a big part of it, I am somewhat suprised that between the two of them Blair and Bush didn't magic some up!
I get so angry that so many lives are being/have been ruined, so many young people died for nothing more than lies, it really bothers me that Bush and Blair are still getting away with it. If I had my way they would be tried for this.
My only consolation is that this may weigh heavy on their conscious, but I think I may be disappointed.

Harry's going to fight, right?

In the USA ,Blair was pretty much known as a good man,but a puppet of Bush,s small list of supporters. You can imagine the comments coming out of Washington,
The American people I believed took to Blair for all the wrong reasons- - mainly because he stood behind our president, who still hasn't gotten it right!
How does his predicted predecessor look- Gordan Brown?? From what I get on him , He seems to be a bit more of his own man- but....who knows??

I fully support the disdain Mr.Blair has concerning the Iraqi debacle...but his govt.and him personally have done one great thing his reign may be remembered for..i.e Peace in Northern Ireland....him and his Irish govt.contemperaries were instrumental in getting both sides to sit down and talk.Who would have thought 10yrs.ago you would have Dr.Ian Paisly&Gerry Adams holding hands in govt.and for the 1st.time in 40yrs.the northern part of Ireland has a future without hooded gunmen and sectarian violence.Of course none of this could have been done without the the intial support of the U.S govt.namely Bill Clinton...which Bush had no choice but to continue.

I'm not a big fan of Blair, but I don't think much of Gordon Brown, either. I'd be a traitor to my class if I voted for David Cameron, and Menzies Campbell, well he's a nice old duffer, but he's not Prime Minister material. I still reckon Charles Kennedy was the best hope this country had. It took guts to stand up and admit he had a drink problem, and I admire his courage. I hate this thing where politicians are supposed to be whiter than white, and are supposed to have lived a life entirely free of any transgressions. That just ain't normal. Winston Churchill was a raging alcoholic, and nobody minded that. I'd have far more trust in a someone who said "Yeah, I smoked a few joints when I was at college (and I did inhale!), I used to shoplift sweets from Woolies when I was a kid, and every so often I get drunk and fall downstairs!"
I think you have to draw the line at picking up rent boys on Hampstead Heath though. That's a bridge too far...
That Lembit Opik cracks me up. Dumped that po-faced Sian for one of the Cheeky Girls. Good luck to him. I bet the sex is better!

I can remember the high profile cases & violence going on in Northern Ireland since the Bobby Sands days. Yes, it was the Clinton administration who finally got the ball rolling with some measure of success. Also,as you alluded, to Jerry Adams (maybe under pressure or maybe out of shear humanity ) did quite a bit by not letting the issues go away> he deserves plenty of credit for not letting the peace process die.
I only wish Bush would get off his macho thing and realize that Iraq has years of internal strife and civil unrest that must take place before any type of government can be successfully implemented.
The Iraqi people are being wiped out in Bush's push of Democracy. I don't believe you take a country that has be following religious laws for hundreds)thousands/) of years & promise them fast food,Disneyland, and equality for all,
This is not what they want- - to push our way of life on those people is arrogant and shows a lack of respect for their history.
No doubt- Saddam had to be removed- but to continue to occupy their country under the guise that all will be well- if they just do as we say- is nonsense.
I can go on and on- but Im glad Blair took the route he did, & now with the democratic controlling the House & congress over here- maybe we can get that stubborn b******, Bush to see the light. However,he already used his veto power when congress tried to block huge dollar amounts to fund his war
Gotta go-
Here's hoping we can save ourselves and the planet for the next few generations,

As I have mentioned ,we only had 1 president in history that resigned- and when Nixon resigned it was in total shame.- That guy should have went to prison for his activities, but he didnt( although many of his cooperators did)

More importantly> How is your home life. How is that beautiful daughter of yours?
Are you getting along a little better with her father?? As a single father' myself, his f***ed up actions make me sooo mad - I wish I could reach through the computer and knock some sense into him
Just please be careful- I dont know if he is dealing with a full deck

Yeah politics make for strange bedfellows. I'm almost embarrassed that this country(my country) thinks it has to police the planet.
Blair was fooled by the Bush,s statements about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction like everyone else. However, when the UN inspectors came back and said they couldn't find any (ok- they had only limited access) we should pressed on for further proof -certainly we should needed more reliable information to bomb , and invade, and overthrow a country.
We all know Saddam was a bad man -who had to go> but at this cost? This long? This many lives?
Also the way Bush morphed the 9/11 attacks & Iraq was so deceitful & misleading. This country was looking for revenge & he used America's anger and frustration to confuse the public with> Afghanistan/Al-Qaeda/& Iraq
Most normal people didn't know the difference or care.
Anyway, now its years later, many many more deaths ,much more destruction, and we have a country that hasnt been this divided since the Vietnam era. (Boy,am I reminded of that scene).
Ok I have to go- Ive been raved up all morning. Sorry to get so political on a recovery site- - but I didn't mean for it to go that way.
Hope you have a nice weekend
peace!,

I think You hit the nail on the head there Jack. I mean, what so great about Western capitalism masquerading as "liberal" democracy, that we have the arrogance to foist it onto every other nation whether they want it or not. When I was studing international politics (that what my degree is in) I thought that every state was sovereign within its borders and was entitled to do pretty much as it liked without interference from outside. It seems that as the days of empire fade into history, we're looking at new ways of interfering with other sovereign states under the banner of humanitarianism. Give me a break! Bush doesn't give a flying f*** about human rights - it's just a convenient slogan to hang his hat on, whilst he secures foreign markets. War against terror? All they've done is fan the flames of religious fervour.
I'll probably get shot down in flames here, but what is so damned good about democracy anyway. Just another way of saying mob rule, if you ask me. What chance have minorities got in a democracy? Winston Churchill said that democracy was a terrible way to run a country, but it's the best we've come up with so far. I reckon the world needs a few more benign dictators if you ask me. Remember the cold war? Europe was as quiet as a mouse. The longest period of undisturbed peace in modern history was during the cold war. Didn't have a single hot war in Europe the whole time. A bit like schooling a bunch of naughty children. Step out of line and you get caned. So they all behaved themselves. The moment the cold war ended, civil wars broke out all over. The fear of massive nuclear retaliation forced different peoples to live alongside each other in peace. Lift the fear, and it opened the doors on racial and religious hatred. Thomas Hobbes knew that the nature of man was nasty and brutish, and when I look around me, I have to agree.
Just my thoughts...

Jack, forgive my rudeness in not replying properly to you. It's just that when you've got a baby time on the pc is limited, and I did rather go off on one, and then didn't get a chance to get back to you.
Well, Rowanne is fine. She must be the happiest baby in the history of mankind. She just eats, sleeps, s***s and smiles. She's such a joy to everybody that meets her. Took her for some photos last week, but she was more interested in looking out the window than smiling at the photographer. She does look rather serious! But I had one of her on her own, one of her with 2 of her cousins, and her fathers, mothers nieces daughter (can't even begin to work out what relation that makes her to Rowanne - but she's cute and pretty and looks sweet in the photo!). Being a mother seems to have come naturally to me, thankfully. I've been so happy since I had her, and she's not created any problems. I just adore her and love looking after her.
As for me, I've been full of cold all week and have torn a tendon in my wrist which means I have to wear a splint and have trouble picking her up. Fortunately her father has been pretty good about helping me. I've been surprised at how good he has been actually. He's surprised himself really. All through the pregnancy he was going on about having no paternal instinct, and how he didn't want her, and thought that a baby would just ruin his life. But he just feel in love with her the first time he held her in his arms. He actually thanked me for fighting so hard to have her, and tells everybody and anybody how gorgeous she is, and how much he loves her. Most people are just as shocked as I am about how he's reacted to her, and say that they never thought in a million years that they'd be hearing him going all soft and gooey over a baby. And because of her his attitude to me has improved. Especially since I asked him how he'd feel if she ever got involved with a man who treated her like he has treated me. I think that brought it home to him.
So over all, things are pretty good.
How's Sandy? You haven't mentioned her recently. I hope you'r both OK.

Glad to hear the baby's fine & healthy, and also glad your guy has calmed down a bit.- Lets hope its permanent.
As for Sandy, funny you mention a torn muscle/ ligament- she has been out of work for 2 weeks with a torn neck muscle. Lots of therapy and some pain killers(she,s ok with them)- is helping a lot.
All her other women problems I think we can write off to us just panicking to the change of life. Hell ,she,s 50 years old and we think its coming a bit early.
She has her period- and then for 4 months she doesnt, Now she just had one this week, so you have to start all over again.- I dont know, women stuff! I try to be supportive but that change is a cruel twist of life.- Im glad Im a guy -
Thanks for asking & again ,hope your first mothers day is a great one.!!
All that political talk was fun and enlightening, we will pick it up another time
