Meth does save lives, it like anything else can be abused. And not everyone has the resources to Sub, in Karen's case my hope for her would to get on a Meth program, she already attends NA meetings, and then maybe sub will come to Canada soon so she can make the switch. If it doesn't and she gets her life back with Meth, then good for her.

Its when people decide to get sober on drugs but they leave out a program of listening to a doctor and go to meetings and therapy in eaarly recovery? Well JMO but thats what causes a lot of these horror stories.
Bottom line Karen has made the choice to get sober and thats all that matters.

People do need to hear all opinions on methadone...as well as yours! You have some real feeling about this medication as do some that are on or have been on sub!
I know you had a hell of time with methadone. Don't get mad....you shared your thoughts and your story just like the rest of us. As you know most will do what works for them. All we can do is pray that this gives Karen the hope that she needs.

I have never once, in all my reading about this stuff, have ever heard one person who was on methadone and came off it have ANYTHING good to say about it. It was all pretty bad. Horrible.

Karen, You have gotten good suggestions from each of ours experince. I myself have tried meth and im currently on sub. which i understand you have no choice there. I like the person who went three days and realized it was not for her( good for you).Im a 42 year old man who has abused pain pills for along time and alot of them like we all do.i had 3 years clean from them up until motorcycle accident 3 years and 19 sugeries ago. After wreck they put me on fentanyl patches.And when i walked into rehap about 2 months ago i was wearing 7 of them just to keep from going into withdrawls. Thats when i was put on sub. Its hail coming off pain pills i know but if ur going on meth to not face the wd,s from the pills please be very careful. i dont know if youve ever seen someone wd from meth after about a years use. Its terrible, ive seen it.But it does work for some and has saved lives.I had a chance to get on sub and it saved my life.But whatever you do keep coming back because we love and need you. I see that some have chosen to use your thread as a platform to air their views on your method of recovery. I looked back at your original post and I got the impression that your reason for posting was not to invite controversy but to gain support from fellow addicts during a time that is undoubtedly a very uncertain time for you. I applaud you for your efforts and I truly hope you don't allow the negativity of others to affect those efforts.

Meth like sub have people on both sides of the fence, you have advocates for it and advocates against it. This should not preclude anyone from supporting people that use it or sub as part of their recovery efforts.

I'm sorry to anyone who felt offended by my opinion. I believe that everyone who's trying to help themselves deserves the support of this board. I have never been on sub so I have no experience with it but IMO sub and methadone are two entirely different things. I've never said nor do I feel that people shouldn't share whatever their experience may be weather it be sub, methadone, or c/t. I think I've been here long enough that people who read my posts know I am not judgemental. That would make me the world's biggest hypocrite. Maybe I over-reacted to Cecily's post about methadone and if I did I apologize. I just have such a strong opinion about methadone because my experience on it was horrible and I hate to see anyone go through what I did.

thankyous for your relpys, i strated the meth tuesday, im on 35, mg, not mush but still in some withdrul, so i see the doct today, i have not been hight on it, i don,t see the big deal with it, i have seen were it has helped manny people save there ther lives, there is the good and the bade with this, im also going to mettings with this, i realy want this to work in my life, becuse nothing else was, if we had sub i would have tried that, but we don,t,today i have court and im realy scaerd, becuse i can,t miss my meth apt, ill just have my lawyer put thigs over till next month, i could yous some prayers, things are a little ruff till i get on the writ does, i will writ in later to let you now, buy for now love karen.
karen, do you have to go to a clinic or the doctors office daily to take your dose or do they give you x amount of pills to take home? If so how many at a time do you get?

I hope you get your dose straightened out. I'll bet it was a bit of a disappointment to go through the agony of making such a decision and then STILL be uncomfortable. Any medication we take can need some tweaking in order to get the full benefit, don't lose heart. I hope your doctor is good and that he listens to you about how you're feeling. Let us know how you're doing!

You were simply letting someone know the potential dangers of a very strong drug because you care about a fellow addict. My comments were simply an effort to lead this thread away from opinions, controversy, and negativity and back to the issue at hand. Supporting a fellow addict who is taking a big, frightening step toward her recovery. I'm sorry if my post made you (or anyone) uncomfortable.

Thanks Callie - I really do just want to share my experience with methadone so that before anyone goes on it they hear different opinions from different people.

In my opinion, it is good that she hears everything everyone has to say about the methadone.
With having done little to no research on either drug, only from what I've read on the board, if given the chance to go on sub or methadone, I'd probably chose methadone for the reason that is has been used for a long time with evidentally sucess for some. The only reason I'd say no to sub is for the same reason I say no to most new medications, its young. And these days, they put a drug on the market, and 6 months later they pull it because of effects they didn't realize till after it made people sick or whatever.
I guess I'm just saying that I like to go with stuff thats been around forever so there won't be any medical surprises or anything. Make sense?
