hey gloria,

pick yourself up, dust yourself off, ( do the hokey pokey ..just kidding) and start again...dont beat yourself too much about it. whats done is done. use this as a tool for knowing what to avoid this next time around....use it to your advantage..

take some time and read through the posts, their is an OTC thread, a "Your brain on opiates" thread, and a vitamin thread that may be of interest to you.

Just know that we have all been there and many have beat this thing. you can too.

hugs,
ali
I am new to this board but I have read a lot of posts about how to get through withdrawals. I know there are some posts about OTC meds. that can be helpful. If you look back at previous posts I'm sure you'll run across a lot of helpful hints. I was on pain pills (lortab) for a long time and my psychiatrist put me on methadone to get off pills.......BIG MISTAKE!!!! Just try to stay strong and positive. Take it one day at a time.

Gloria, Coming here is a great first step. Welcome. Take care, Atlas
Welcome Gloria!

I just bumped up the list of OTC meds for w/d

Good luck sweetie!
Welcome to the board. Iam using an electric blanket for the cold chills. I also drink only water because other sports drinks have sugar and can add to or make thr runs even worse. Take vitamins as well and keep posting.

Keep coming back, gloria. Tomorrow's a clean slate. We get to start over every day.

here are some suggestions that will help tremendously with opiate withdrawal.

first and foremost, a medical doctor can prescribe either clonidine pills or catapres patches. it is a blood pressure medication that will alleviate several of the symptoms of w/d -- the patches last a week. there are, i believe, 2 strengths -- 1 & 3 mg., if memory serves me correctly? i highly recommend them, esp. if you are doing this on an outpatient basis.

of course, as listed in the OTC thread, immodium ad to help with the diarrhea.

if you're planning on taking any type of an antihistamine i would advise against anything with pseudoephedrine in it -- it will elevate your heart rate and chances are your heart rate will already be elevated. i know mine always was. benadryl does not have pseudoephedrine in it and might help you get a little sleep. "might" being the operative word?

anticipate a rough week or so. that's just the way it is. try to think of it as just a bad flu. ibuprofen will help with some of the aches and pains, but unfortunately the achey bones are just part of the deal. they will subside with time.

be gentle with yourself. this is going to be hard -- there's just no easy way around it. but, if you know that going in it makes it a little bit easier.

don't listen to your head -- it will lie to you. you have to keep telling yourself that you'll be ok if you just don't use. time will seem to stand still. minutes will seem like hours -- hours will seem like days. that too will pass.

pray like you've never prayed before. even if you don't believe in god or have any concept of a higher power -- i can assure you that there is some power in this universe that is standing over you and guiding you right now. you wouldn't be here on this site if that wasn't the case.

please know that you are not alone. keep checking in here on a daily, even an hourly basis. the people here have been where you are now and we're all rooting for you. you can do this -- you will do this!

i believe in you, gloria. stay hydrated and as comfortable as possible -- you deserve to live a happy sober life. it's worth fighting for!

hugs of support and love,
