Sub Questions

hello everyone I have a few questions about this sub stuff everyones raving about. I'm an addict and I've posted a few times before but I'll breifly explain myself again. I've been taking percs for well over a year I take about 10 pills a day and I can't stop I have tried and the withdrawals are terrrible as I'm sure you all know. I started taking them for medical reasons and although I'm still having pain I'd rather deal with it than continue on this path. I have no health insurance but soon I'm getting on mass health for the disability I have. I can't work right now or should I say I don't want to until I"m clean. I need to focus on that first. But anyways how much does it cost. Is there a time limit to get in to see the doctors and is anyone else here on mass health that would know if it's covered. I don't know much about it. I have read up on it but of course my questions are not answered. Is it expensive and how do I go about doing it?

Please help me I need to get off of this s*** it's ruining my life.

If you are thinking of getting on the sub, you need to find a doctor now and make an appointment. I was able to get in with my doctor the first day I called (she had a cancellation), but I am 40 minutes away from the city. The doctors I called closer to New Orleans had about a 2 month waiting list

After you make your appointment, you need to make sure you are in withdrawals for at least 24 hours.

The cost depends..... Some doctors take insurance, others don't (mine made me pay up front & then they filed w/ my insurance company so they could reimburse me, which hasn't happened yet). Expect to pay anywhere from $200-$400 for the first visit if you do not have insurance (mine was $400 for the first visit & then $200 each additional visit..... at first every week or two and then every month).

The medicine is additional..... When I was taking 6mg a day, I had to take 3 2mg tablets.... This cost about $130 every 2 weeks. I went up to 8mg a day so that I would only have to take 1 pill - this costs me about $70 every 2 weeks

To me, the cost is well worth it...... When I complain, my husband reminds me how much it would cost if I was still addicted - the Norco, the medical bills (from the damage I was doing), the lawyers' fees (because I'm sure it wouldn't have been long before I was in legal trouble), the missed days at work.....

Does this help?

Hey Stacyn,
Hi and welcome to the board. The cost varies on where you live apparently. I have seen people pay alot for it. I am in Michigan and my 1st visit cost me $150 and I was there for about 5 hours. I have been back to my doc for check ups 6 times and never charged for the brief chats we have. My ins picked up the cost of the sub, so I'm not sure on that.
Thare is a link to find docs that can prescribe sub, but I don't know it. Jeez, I don't think I am helping at all here. Hopefully John Dee, Marina or Mistyeyes will come along and help you out more, I just did not want your post to go unanswered.
You can try to call around and find an addiction specialist, that is who I would recommend. It is really important to find a caring and knowledgable doc.

I wish I had more for you, but someone will come along. I have to read my son a book and put him to bed so if you post back, I'm sorry I won't be here. I will try to look later though.

Take care

I paid $90 for my first office vist and $45 for each followup visis. The sub costs $285 for a months supply, but my insurance covered so I only had a co-pay.

where do you live??
i live in pennsylvania and my first doctor vistit was $100 and $20 for the drug test. i also had to pay $5 for each pill they dosed me with. my health insurance pays for the meds but not the doctor. i have to go back every 2 weeks and that cost $60 and sometimes an extra $20 for a drug test.
hope this helps.
i know for one thing, this is the best choice i could have made.
good luck

Stacy, I just got signed up for the program and have not started taking SUB yet. Doctors vary in price and most insurrance doesnt pay. My cost will be about 400 dollars + 1 months supply of the SUB cost . I estimate about 600 dollars total.

Here is a physician locator to help give you a list of doctors in your state . Call them and see what kind of program they offer. http://buprenorphine.samhsa.gov/bwn...ator/index.html

By the way, Danielle is someone I respect , who has recently started the program. She has good advice.

Good luck Jake
First of all thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I appreciate the help looking these things up.
I'm from Massachussetts and from the replies on the cost I'm shocked and upset at the same time. I have no job because of medical issues and I'm currently collecting unemployment I only get $200.00 every week. I have a car loan and car insurance to pay for that equals out to about $600.00 a month alone!!!!!!! I don't know what to do I need to get off of these. I have no one that can help me out, which I don't expect anyone to I got into this mess no one forced the pills down my throat but it would be nice to get some money lent to me you know!. The only other thing I can think of is to quit cold turkey I know what thats like and it sucks so bad. I did find a couple of doctors around my area and I will call around to check the prices maybe I can do something. Thanks guys for the help stay strong we will all make it through someday.
