Hi everyone. I'm 23 & have been on Zubsolv 5.7-1.4mg/2 daily for 2 & half years now.
I'm only 108lbs & I eat a lot & fairly healthy & I know it may sound strange but EVERY single time I take my sublingual & it dissolves I immediately become hungry with a growling stomach almost as if I haven't eaten anything when Iin fact I just ate moments before taking the medication. It's an overwhelming hunger too. Like I haven't eaten in days. It's very odd & I hate eating right after I just took it bc I feel like it takes away the effects of the medication & im bound to end up taking my 2nd dose much sooner. The medication doesn't exactly get me "high" like it did before but it does still give me that boost of motivation & energy which is very needed bc I'm always feeling so tired. Does anyone get this way after taking their sub/zub?
Also, I have very bad constipation & have since days 1 my stool is also very very hard making it painful. TMI, I apologize. I've tried over the counter drugs & have tried eating lots of fiber & exercise almost daily & nothing has changed. Is their a medication I could ask my doctor to prescribe to help this? He says that this is all normal & from what I've read it's the #1 side-effect but yet hasn't really offered an effective solution.
Actually its not TMI, but im with you its awkward to talk about. I took suboxone and had the exact same effects, especially the hunger. It makes sense because our bodies get dependant on these, even if they are partial opiods and don't fully get us high.
In addition, replacement opioids have been known to cause similar constipation to regular opiates which i can verify.
Your options might not be that much, but I have thought of a few.
First, consider lowering your dose if your body can handle it. I would talk to your doctor first of course because I am not a professional but I started to take lower doses like 2-3mg when suboxone is usually 8. Lowering the dose may lower the negative effects, if you get the right level where you are still getting the benefits you need.
Also you can try to treat the individual symptoms with mild laxatives, probiotics, or other things known to kickstart that process. For the hunger that might be harder to treat, and I agree it is very weird eating after that strip I hated it, but my appetite would return because my body was dependant on it.
There is also a prescription for relieving opioid induced constipation, you could ask your doctor about that as well. - Its called Movantik
If you can find a holistic way to relieve the benefits, it might be better.
