does anyone know about these drugs and who would prescribe them??
Only Dr's that went thru the program can prescribe it
You can check to physician locator to find a Dr near you that can do it
Some areas have lots of them available while in other areas you may have to call dozens of them before you find one with any openings for a new patient.
They are limited to treating only 30 patients at a time.
It can be a miracle pill for some but does have its drawbacks also.
It is a very strong opiate but you do not feel any high from it.
Helps get rid of w/d's and cravings but you can end up addicted to it if you take it for too long. Most say to take the lowest dose possible and get off as quick as possible. Common to hear that you need to be on it 3 weeks or less to avoid being addicted to it. You also need to taper off, not stop ct.
I will find the link for the Dr locator and post it shortly....
Here is a link to finding a physician in your area who can prescribe Sub
(not all physicians can, and those who do may have a waiting list as they can only treat a limited number of patients)

If you happen to live in Massachusetts, please post again and I will give you the name of my sub doctor.
I have been on Sub for a few weeks now, am tapering down. It's been a godsend for me.
Good luck

Here is the site for the Dr locator
Please fully research it before starting this med.
I will tell you that most of the Dr's prescribing it have no clue what they are doing!! They only have to take an 8 hour on-line course to get certified!!
Lots of nightmares out there because people are listening to Dr's that have no clue. Many of us take advise from our Dr and feel good doing so. PLEASE be careful about doing that with Sub/Bupe Dr's!!
I have taken it before and will probably go on it again soon. (Due to relapse - too long of a story)
I will start with only 4 - 6 mgs per day and should be completely off within 2 weeks, 3 weeks at most.
My doc started prescribing it to me at 32 mgs per day, which is insane!!!
32 mgs / day is actually the highest dose you can take before it starts doing the opposite of what it should.
It is a very odd drug.
Just remember - LESS IS MORE WITH BUPE!!!
(Opposite of most addict thinking!!!)
And do lots of research on it!!!
Important most of all to talk to people that have taken it and get real life info - and as much as possible!!
Good luck!!
metz,
What is your doc, how much do you take and how long have you been using??
These are important re: Bupe/Sub....

thanks swizzle thanks kelly
my doc is percocet and oxy for about three years off and on. recently alot more than normal
I agree that 32 mg is way too much. I started on 12 mg (even that way high, and I would have preferred 8 mg).
While it is important to educate yourself, do not be freightened because some others may have had difficult experiences with Sub.
In my opinion, you should start on the lowest dose possible (if I have to ever do it again, I will start on 8 mg instead of 12) and begin to taper slowly after a week.
I went from 12 to 8 and am now at 4. I've had no problems or withdrawal symptoms on this taper. Next week I will go to 2 mg then try to step off completely.
Feel free to email me if you'd like to. ozergirl@yahoo.com

I agree 100% with Kelly!!
The reason I asked about your doc metz, is because I have seen some go on Bupe for a low dose of hydro addiction and have it worse coming off the bupe than if they would have just come off the hydro - and they end up really upset that the Dr put them thru that instead of just helping them get off the hydro without the use of Bupe.
Oxy is much harder to get off of and Bupe works very well for that - especially if you are taking a lot of oxy. Sounds like you are and so am I.
I am going to start the Bupe again soon to get off these oxy's that have this terrible hold on me!! The Bupe worked great for me when I used it before to get off the oxy. I was just dumb and not really wanting to stop the oxy and went back on it again. This time it will work for me!!!! I just have to have my head in the right place before I start it again!!
If you have more questions about the Bupe/Sub, feel free to ask away.
I will at least tell you about my experience with it and things that others have said too.
As long as you research thoroughly and do it the right way, there is no reason to be scared of Bupe and it very well can save your life!!
:-)
Swizzle
i got the link and looking in my area sounds like between swizzle and kelly and me we all can do this together
Swizzle,
A question for you....how long were you off sub before you started using again?
I was talking to someone at the Sub doctors office in the waiting room last week who told me they stopped taking their sub and because they didn't want to go through Sub WDs started using the next day. He got called into the doctor a minute later so I never got to hear the end of his story and don't know if the pills prevented the WDs...
I've also heard (from the very knowledgeable JohnDee) that sub works best the first time around and may not be as effective if used multiple times. Is this only the second time for you?
My doctor is very supportive and while right now, at least, I have no cravings to use, he is telling me not to worry about relapsing, that I can always come back to him for help.
