Success Stories

This evening we added a new forum, entitled Success Stories. The only requirements for posting in the forum is that you are a registered user with at least 6 months of sobriety. We ask that you begin by listing your sobriety date, then up to five main factors that led to your sobriety. There is a limit of approximately 650 words.

In some ways this forum is more like a blog than a forum. Threads cannot be replied to and users must wait at least three months to post updates to their thread (however they can edit their thread at any time).

We hope that you will find inspiration in the new forum and we encourage those of you with 6+ months clean time to share your success story.

Best Regards,
The Moderators
Moderators,

Fantastic idea, That was one thing I think was lacking when I originally came here. I was not sure this could be beat. I was the one who asked "how old is this board". In hopes to find some success stories. Keep up the good work.

Best Regards,
Tom
Thank you Tom. I remember your question and in fact, messages like yours was what inspired the creation of the new forum.

Hello moderator - excuse me for my ignorance but is moderator a big bro/sister type character? do you get to sit by the machine all day and watch the postings? If so I would LOVE your job!!) What do you or do you not look for?

I really like the idea behind "success stories". although I am not sure about the rules in terms of the author not being able to return to the site? Can u explain a bit more. As you can see my terminology and computer savvy has a lot to be desired.

Anyway I had my first year on January 1, 2005. For those of you that are purists - I do use sub for chronic pain. However, in my particular case it is certainly better than a combination of Fiornal#3, MScontin, Oxycontin, dilaudid, norco, valium and xanax with klonopin and various other anti-depressants.

I have kept sober with the help of (my understanding is that you wanted 5 things)
these are in no order except for #1

Higher power
meetings
working the steps
support of family
good treatement and aftercare

For those of you just barely hanging on by your fingertips and wanting desperately to say f...it - hang on - seriously if I can do it- you can do it. One day I was in a meeting and it was about 6 month into my sobriety and I talked about the fact I was having a difficult time with the higher power concept. One of the regulars looked at me and said - "girl - if you could have seen how you looked when you walked in compared to what you look like now (remember I looked like h... when I walked in) --- that is how I see the higher power - working through other people." Welcome to the newcomer!
