I'm new to the forum. My son is 22 and a recovering addict. His drugs of choice were benzos but he wouldn't turn down options. He just past the 9 month sobriety Mark this week and I'm so proud of him
He has really turned his life around. So why am I posting this you might ask? He tore his labrum in his shoulder and needs surgery. He's scheduled for it on 10/19 and I'm sure a red and slightly terrified about him taking pain meds. Anyone have a love one who has had surgery while in recovery?
Is his doctor aware of his addiction and recovery -- he/she should be.
I had a colonoscopy not long ago and made sure the attending anaesthetist was aware that I am a recovering alcoholic.
The doctors (if well informed) will take care of him properly.
All the best.
