I am on day eight. Although I've been through w/d before, it's been a long time. This time has been the worst. Probably because this time I was taking a lot more pain pills then last time and I was also taking xanax. One of the main symptoms I am having is being extremely cold, especially my feet. Of course it's freezing outside but I was very cold last week also and it was warm then. Is cold feet a w/d symptom? Thankfully being cold, and my neck hurting are just about all that's still bothering me. I've finally been able to sleep and eat again and today I even went grocery shopping. Things are starting to look up.

Hang in there Shelly. Cold feet, cold everything is certainly a symptom. Hot baths are very soothing. I'm glad you're feeling a little better. It's slow the first couple of weeks, then really starts to improve. Please try to understand why (outside of being rx'd for your surgery) you relapsed or continued to use after not needing them anymore pain. Maybe it's time to check out that meeting. You're doing great. Stay with it!

I was always cold whenever I was in W/D. I would get the sleeping bag and 4 or 5 quilts and put them all on the bed and crawl under them with a book or my computer or sometimes even my PlayStationPortable and lose days at a time. Supposed to be at work? Yep, but I'm freezing under a foot of down..........
So, anyway, yes. It is always a symptom for me.

Hey Shelly! You've got a week. Congratulations! You sound like you're doing really well. Grocery shopping? I have two words for you in early recovery: Take out. LOL
Water is your friend. Drink lots of it to flush the toxins. One thing I did during detox that actually made me feel pretty good, all things considered, was to take a hot bath in Epsom salts and then climb as quickly as possible into bed under a mess of down comforters, wrapped in a couple of towels or a terry bathrobe and just sweat it out -- going back and forth between the bath and bed every half hour or so for a couple of hours. Make sure you keep a couple of bottles of water by the bed and the tub because you're going to need to rehydrate often.
Hang in there.
Love,
Gina

Thanks everyone. Today was pretty good. I went to my sister's house and my whole family was there. This morning I didn't want to go but I made myself and now I'm glad I did. One of my biggest problems is that I talk myself out of everything and I need to just get up and do it. So I had a good time.
Tim, thanks for the advice on the books. I'm going to order them from Amazon. I'm especially interested in the one about addictive behavior. Hopefully I will learn a lot.
Hope everyone had a good Easter. I'll check in tomorrow.

Shelly, good that you are getting out and doing stuff that helps immensely. Important now to start thinking about what you are going to do different this time. No shame in relapsing..it is a part of this disease. Some relapse many times before they get it.
A very good strong program of recovery is needed. Whether it be AA/NA or some other group, private therapy or group therapy. One thing you perhaps agree on is that just stopping is inefficient.
Time to get real honest and get to the root of the issues.
