We were talking about a Power Greater Than Ourselves yesterday, and it reminded me of what some of the OldTimers in my group would say when "The GOD Thing," is discussed in an open meeting (which isn't often!).
Good Orderly Direction. Well, DU-UUH! The Chapter to the Agnostic in The Big Book is very accomodating, as is every single AA meeting I've ever been to, but those who have been in the longest simply diffuse any newcomer's slow simmering by using this phrase. Brilliant!
I've been wrestling with the whole HP thing, trying to reconcile what I knew with what I know now. There are guys/gals that have gotten sober by using a lightswitch--albeit it ANY lightswitch--as a Higher Power. When you think about electricity, too, it's pretty easy to make the leap! No pun intended! ;) Another I heard would say his Serenity Prayer out the window to a huge Live Oak tree. Still others talked of mystic cosmic forces, and then there were the religious zealots who'd lost their blinders, too.
My Point? That a Power Greater Than Ourselves doesn't NEED a name. Simply following The Program allows for those questions to go unanswered while the Principles of spirituality are allowed to be nurtured and grow in the sunlight of wisdom and sobriety that comes from the rooms and other recovering alcoholics. Good Orderly Direction. Steps to proceed. Them old coots have an answer for everything!

I used to look so hard for the blinding flash of gods miracles in my life and never seen anything, but once i stopped looking hard and acknowledged the beauty of god all around and the messages that are there everyday, i realised that i am a part of the miracles bt just being sober one day at a time
