The Miracle Drug

In my Suboxone-maintenance support group, there a guy who calls Suboxone "The Miracle Drug." I agree.
Using the word "drug" around a buncha addicts -- that's a loaded term. I know there are a lot of people out there who define "clean and sober" as TOTALLY chem-free, and ONLY as totally free. But I have a simple question for them: would you tell a diabetic that they really "should" be able to get thru their lives without their daily insulin?
If we really DO believe addiction is a disease -- and I think there are a lot of people out there that SAY that but don't really ACT as though they believed it -- then a medical cure is a medical cure.
I've been on my suboxone maintenance for over two years now. I've never relapsed. Not even close -- though Lord knows the temptations are still there, the point is that with the Suboxone, it's easy enough to resist those temptations. With the help of a loving and almighty God -- and with my Suboxone maintenance -- God willing, I never WILL relapse.
Now, if to some people, this means I'm not "REALLY" clean and sober, y'know, I guess I can live with that. As long as I can keep living my life successfully, free of chasing drugs every day, I'm happy.
I'm certainly willing to listen to anyone who disagrees, though.
But for anyone who is struggling with addiction and through other methods has not been successful, I would absolutely beg you to run, don't walk, to find one of the clinics that is able to take on new Suboxone patients (a bit easier now that the law changed to lift the patient-limit to 30 per doctor instead of 30 per practice).
