5 weeks ago I was in a pit of darkness and despair. By the Grace of God or HP whatever one prefer) I managed to crawl out of that pit. There the road ahead of me seemed long, lonely and empty. As I began to stumble my way along ,helpers came my way. They have held my hand and led me when I felt I could no longer take another step. When I felt myself slipping back to the pit they have reached out with willing open arms to pull me back. They have understood that sometimes I am tired from the struggling of walking on an unfamiliar path. But the GREAT thing about this road is that these helpers have stood by me and as long as I have them to guide me I will not be lost. You see these helpers have crawled out of the same pit. Their journey began as mine did, with fear of the unknown and what lay ahead on that road. They have gone farther and now know that at the end of this road that there is PEACE,CONTENTMENT AND SANITY but they keep coming back to the beginning of the road to help others reach what they have discovered. To share what they have learned. What a blessing! I still need these helpers but I don't stumble as much anymore and when I do they pick me right back up.Thank you my helpers ,my" guardian angels" for you shine a light for us who are still coming out of the darkness. God bless you all and be safe.
What a beautiful message....thank you for sharing your ESH. Is this your first time being introduced to the program? Unfortunately (or I should say, it takes what it takes), I was first introduced to AA and the 12 steps back in 1993...and here I sit with 9 days! But I wont allow the shame to keep me stuck. Although I've been to 3 rehabs and know the drill, I won't allow the shame of being a newcomer AGAIN to be an excuse to keep drinking.
Pirate, you have been one of my guardian angels in these last few days. Your interest to get to know me and help me have uplifted me and words will never adequately express my gratitude.
Thank you, my friend, my angel, for being here.
In spirit,
Zipper

And gidday Zipper...never let the past supply you with guilt transfer the guilt into courage to change, the guilt is part of your experience and now you can build your strength and hope to learn from ALL your experiences and step forward one day at a time..
One of the things with being in AA awhile i have seen people come and goe...the seed is planted and they just need to have a few hard seasons before the growing starts again....when they come back, that is the ones that make it.
All of our pasts are there to help newcomers and others understand the journey as it happened or happens in our eyes:)

pirate,
I just want you to know that you can add a lot of other people to the list of those cheering you on. We might not know how difficult it is, we might not know your pain, but as the partners, friends or relatives of alcoholics and addicts believe me, we love every single person who is trying to get well and happy. It brings me hope and fills me with admiration and love for the human spirit to hear of your courage. No-one can ever know what the future holds for any of us, but the fact that you are taking this step.....it's a miracle pirate, and I love you for making it possible.
